According to Michelin, Power Pure tires weighs two pounds less than Bridgestones BT-016, Dunlops Sportmax Qualifier II, Metzelers Sportrec M3 and Pirellis Diablo Rosso tires. Michelin claims saving two pounds from tires offers the same advantage as reducing the weight of wheels by six pounds or brake discs by eight pounds because of inertia.

Originally scheduled for June 4-6 in Paris, France, the EMXGP will now take place Oct. 16-17 in Barcelona, Spain, to complement the Zero Carbon Transport Conference, Oct. 19-20. The event will feature electric cars racing on city roads. The originally scheduled event was also supposed to feature an exhibition on zero-emission motorcycles, and that is likely still on the agenda as the TTXGP Grand Final is set for Oct. 23-24 in nearby Albacete, Spain.

Under the American Recovery Reinvestment Act, new vehicles purchased between Feb. 17 and Dec. 31 2009 may qualify for deductions to state and local sales and excise taxes. The 2010 Royal Enfield lineup will be built around a new fuel injected unit construction engine. First introduced in 2009 to meet Euro 3 emission regulations, the new engine will be installed across Royal Enfields entire North American Bullet lineup. The new engine places the five-speed transmission inside the engine casing. The transmission uses a seven-plate wet clutch Royal Enfield says is lighter and more accurate than the previous system.

With rain pouring onto the closed roof of the Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada, Villopoto led in all but the opening lap on his way to victory. The Monster Energy Kawasaki racer took over from Red Bull Honda s Trey Canard on the second lap and went unchallenged the rest of the way.

A top motocross racer in the80s, Chandlers career ended after a crash at the Paris Supercross in 1985 left him paralyzed. After the accident, Chandler began promoting mountain bike races and supported the drug awareness program DARE. Chandler also organized visits by motorcycle racers to childrens hospitals.

Codenamed Freeride, the prototypes represent KTMs first zero-emission motorcycle. KTMs official website features teaser images of the two prototypes, a supermoto model and an enduro. Marking its 19th year, Ride to Work Day is aimed at highlighting the practical side of motorcycles and scooters. Event organizers cite the benefits of motorcycles over cars such as improved fuel economy, better traffic flow and more efficient use of parking space.

The British manufacturer is inviting its fans to the Sept. 18 Triumph Live festival for a day of on- and off-track activities to celebrate the 20th anniversary. Triumph Motorcycles ltd. was established after entrepreneur John Bloor purchased the rights to the bran following the 1983 bankruptcy of the Triumph Cooperative.

Until June 15, customers purchasing a new 2009 or 2010 model from Ducati s Superbike lineup will be invited to a day at the track with the Doug Polen 1-on-1 Riders School at one of over a dozen venues. For the track day, Ducati will supply a set of tire warmers, a pair of Ducati-branded quad chairs and an EZ-Up tent for the pit.

Hungary was originally supposed to host the MotoGP Championship in 2009 but the economic crisis delayed construction on the circuit near Lake Balaton. In July 2009, the International Motorcycling Federation released a tentative 2010 calendar with Hungary penciled in for Sept. 19.

FB Corse will not be on the starting grid for the 2010 MotoGP season opener in Qatar but it may be ready when the series moves to Spain for the third round.

The Ducati Marlboro rider recorded a time of 1:55.353 on the second day of testing under the lights at the Losail International Circuit. Stoners time was a hair under Valentino Rossis best time, 1:55.402, set in the first night of testing. The two riders finished in reverse order on the first night of testing, showing why they are considered early favorites for the 2010 championship.

HD cameras have been used to film a lot of the racing action over the last year, but full HD broadcasts will be available for the first time with the April 11 season opener in Doha, Qatar.

The Alcaniz, Spain, track was named the reserve circuit for the 2010 MotoGP season and was called into action to replace the Hungarian Grand Prix after construction delays meant the Balatonring race track wouldnt be ready for the scheduled Sept. 19 event. Under the new agreement, Motorland Aragon will continue to be the alternate circuit, ready to replace any events that cannot be held as scheduled.

The two prototypes were supposed to be unveiled March 26 at the Tokyo Motor Show, but after a German publication leaked photos and details, KTM decided to release official information a day early.

The International Motorcycling Federation is in negotiations to add Laguna Seca to its e-Power electric racing series.

One of the earliest advocates for Ride to Work Day, Aerostich is once again showing its support for the demonstration of the benefits of riding. Aerostich is asking motorcycle and scooter riders to take part.

Racing before a crowd of 38,321 at Jacksonville Municipal Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla., Villopoto led every lap for the win, but a second place finish by Dungey cut the lead by only three points. Villopoto leads all riders with six wins in 12 races but Dungeys consistency (hes missed the podium only three times, and has finished no lower than sixth) gives him a 261-240 lead.

Aprilia Alitalias Biaggi jumped out to the lead in Race One with Suzuki Alstares Haslam close behind. The two riders traded the lead through the race, both well ahead of the pack. Biaggi gained the advantage on lap 17 of the 22 lap race and held off several final-lap challenges to win by 0.200 seconds.

The first Daytona Sportbike race was delayed due to high winds at the Fontana, Calif., circuit. When the race finally started, it was reigning champion Danny Eslick leading from the pole, followed by the Graves Yamaha pair of Tommy Aquino and Herrin. Latus Motors Ducati s Steve Rapp, Project 1 Yamahas Dane Westby and Cardenas were also among the lead group.

Three weeks after the season opener at Daytona, AMA Pro Racing was back in action in Fontana, Calif. Race fans had to wait a little longer however, as strong gusting winds delayed Saturdays racing by nearly two hours.

According to Piaggio, the new engine consume 15 percent less fuel than its predecessor up to 85 miles per gallon. In addition, Piaggio says the new engine design provides stronger, smoother acceleration in stop-and-go traffic.

The new AMA Member Getter program rewards members for enlisting others. Existing members will receive a free cap with the AMA logo when they recruit their first new member. After recruiting four new members, recruiters will be rewarded with a free one-year extension to their AMA membership.

Musquin won the 2009 World Championship for KTM in the MX2 class which features a mix of two-stroke 125cc and four-stroke 250cc bikes. For 2011 and 2012, the French racer will compete in both AMA Supercross and AMA Motocross for the new KTM factory team.

McCormick tested for the team at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif., and left a big enough impression to race for Jordan Suzuki. The 18-year-old from Saskatoon, Canada will make his Jordan Suzuki debut at the April 17-18 AMA Pro Racing round at Road Atlanta near Braselton, Ga.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, toxicology tests on driver Michael Jakscht, 46, show he had methamphetamine in his system when he drove his sanitation truck into a group of riders stopped at a red light on March 25.
