New Rules for 1000cc-era MotoGP Class

In December 2009, the FIMs Grand Prix Commission previously approved the switch to 1,000cc engines with a limit of four cylinders and a maximum bore of 81 mm. The new regulations, defined during a meeting Feb. 17, further defined the technical regulations for the 2012 MotoGP season.

AMA Updates Board Membership Rules

As ratified during a meeting Feb. 13 in Indianapolis, the 12-member AMA Board of Directors will reduce the number of corporate-elected members to four from six. The reduction opens up two positions that will become at-large member positions. Under the new code, corporate members will no longer control half of the AMA Board of Directors. The other six positions will continue to be filled by individual, regionally elected members.

AMA Flat Track Gets Airfence Barriers

The IMDA is donating 46 sections of Airfence barriers to the Roadracing World Action Fund which will assign them to AMA Pro Racing for use during the 2010 AMA Pro Flat Track Grand National Championship. TTXGP Moves Electric Car Race

Originally scheduled for June 4-6 in Paris, France, the EMXGP will now take place Oct. 16-17 in Barcelona, Spain, to complement the Zero Carbon Transport Conference, Oct. 19-20. The event will feature electric cars racing on city roads. The originally scheduled event was also supposed to feature an exhibition on zero-emission motorcycles, and that is likely still on the agenda as the TTXGP Grand Final is set for Oct. 23-24 in nearby Albacete, Spain.

Reminder: Tax Deduction for New Streetbikes

Under the American Recovery Reinvestment Act, new vehicles purchased between Feb. 17 and Dec. 31 2009 may qualify for deductions to state and local sales and excise taxes. Qualified vehicles include street and dual-sport motorcycles, scooters, mopeds, cars, light trucks and motor homes. Motorcycles were a late addition to the stimulus bill, added after lobbying from the AMA and other groups.

The 2010 Royal Enfield lineup will be built around a new fuel injected unit construction engine. First introduced in 2009 to meet Euro 3 emission regulations, the new engine will be installed across Royal Enfields entire North American Bullet lineup. The new engine places the five-speed transmission inside the engine casing. The transmission uses a seven-plate wet clutch Royal Enfield says is lighter and more accurate than the previous system.
