2011 Yamaha TT-R Models Announced

The 2011 Yamaha TT-R line will come in three models, the TT-R110E, the TT-R125LE and the TT-R230. They remain unchanged except for graphic updates from when they were last offered as part of Yamahas 2009 line-up, which also included the TT-R125E variant and the TT-R50E. The TT-R125E was a slightly lower version of the TT-R125LE while the TT-R50E , Yamaha says its return is dependent on resolving the CPSIA lead ban issue.

2010 Isle of Man TT Recap

The Padgetts Honda rider won a shortened four-lap Senior TT by 37.77 seconds on the final day of the 2010 Isle of Man TT to complete a perfect five-for-five sweep of the solo classes. The previous record for wins in a single TT belonged to Phil McCallen who won four races in 1996 with a third place finish in the Lightweight 250 TT race.

Horex Brand Resurrected in Germany

The new Horex was unveiled at an event June 15 in Munich, Germany, after weeks of clues and teasers were released by a company calling itself Das Neue Motorrad (German for The New Motorcycle). The original Horex was founded in 1923 by glassware company Rex and operated until 1960 after the company was acquired by Daimler-Benz.

Schwantz will lead the team staffed by Kevin Erion and his Erion Racing technicians for American Hondas Moto2 wildcard entry at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Schwantz is best known for his long association with Suzuki so his selection to manage the Honda squad was unexpected. The 1993 500cc Grand Prix World Champion does have experience with using Honda CBR600RR motorcycles in the Schwantz Motorcycle Riding School however. The Moto2 series uses prototype bikes with engines based on the CBR600RR.

Royal Enfield Plans for Expansion

The India-based company announced plans to nearly double production over the next three years. According to Royal Enfield, its current production facility has been running at full capacity for over a year, with 52,000 units expected for 2010. Royal Enfield plans to produce 70,000 units in 2011 and 90,000 in 2012 before breaking the 100,000 mark in 2013.

Yamaha Names Replacement Rider for Rossi

A two-time Japanese Superbike champion, Yoshikawa will ride the Fiat Yamaha YZR-M1 while Rossi recovers from a broken leg. Yamaha expects Yoshikawa to race in three rounds, Catalunya in Spain, Sachsenring in Germany and the U.S. Grand Prix at Laguna Seca. After that, Yamaha will evaluate Rossis progress before deciding if Yoshikawa will race more rounds.

Ogilvie Joins 2010 AMA Hall of Fame Class

An accomplished desert racer and longtime team manager of American Honda s off-road race teams, Ogilvie is the only racer to win the Baja 1000 overall in four different decades, most recently in 2003 at the age of 51. In addition to his success in the Baja 1000, Ogilvie also collected wins in the San Felipe 250 and the Baja 500. Ogilvie will be inducted posthumously, after succumbing to cancer in 2009.

2010 Pikes Peak Results

Tracy completed the hill climb in 11:46.55, the only bike in the 1205cc class to finish under 12 minutes. Tracys time was also second best among all motorcycles in any class. Second place in the class went to Walker Pew who rode a 2008 Buell XBSTT. Alexander Smith, son of AMA Hall of Famer Malcolm Smith, also also rode the Ducati Multistrada 1200, finishing third with a time of 12:53.381.

Calif. Bill Targets Motorcycle Exhausts

 The Committee on Transportation voted 8-4 in approval of Senate Bill 435 which would require motorcycles built after Jan. 1, 2011 to use exhaust systems that meet sound emission standards. Riders found using 2011 and newer motorcycles without a federal Environmental Protection Agency label certifying sound emission compliance will be issued fix it tickets by law enforcement officers.

BMW Reports First Half 2010 Sales

Over the first six months of 2010, BMW sold 57,015 motorcycles worldwide, up from the 46,972 sold in the first half of 2009. The first half ended with 11,684 units sold in June, up 23.2% from the 9,402 units sold in 2009. June marked the sixth consecutive month BMW reported an increase in sales.

Official: Stoner Joins Honda for 2011

Rumors of Stoner reaching a deal with Honda began to surface in May but the news is now official. Stoner previously raced for the Honda LCR team in his rookie season in 2006, and in 2011, he will race for the factory team. President to Sign Pro OHV Bill

Located 10 miles northwest of Redding, the Chappie-Shasta OHV Area spans 52,000 acres and offers 200 miles of roads and trails. The land is currently under the control of the federal Bureau of Land Management as well as the U.S. Forest Service. Unanimously passed by the U.S. House on July 13, H.R. 689 would give the BLM full control over the land.
