India is the worlds second-largest market for motorcycles and scooters, with an average annual rate of growth of 7% over the last six years. Approximately 8.4 million vehicles were sold in India in 2009 with scooters accounting for 15% of the market at 1.3 million units with growth estimated at 13% each year.

The Italian manufacturer will offer demo rides, technical seminars and sponsoring a breakfast for the MGNOC Rally, showing its support for the group of Moto Guzzi enthusiasts.

Introduced in Europe with much fanfare in March, the naked FZ8 and half-faired Fazer 8 have been added to Yamaha s Canadian line-up. Neither model however will be available with ABS, an option offered by Yamaha Europe.

The 2011 Yamaha TT-R line will come in three models, the TT-R110E, the TT-R125LE and the TT-R230. They remain unchanged except for graphic updates from when they were last offered as part of Yamahas 2009 line-up, which also included the TT-R125E variant and the TT-R50E. The TT-R125E was a slightly lower version of the TT-R125LE while the TT-R50E , Yamaha says its return is dependent on resolving the CPSIA lead ban issue.

Included in the demo lineup will be a full range of 2010 models: the America, Speedmaster, Scrambler, Bonneville, Bonneville SE, Bonneville T100, Thruxton, Daytona 675, Street Triple, Street Triple R, Speed Triple SE, Rocket III Roadster, Rocket III Touring, Thunderbird, Thunderbird SE and Tiger SE.

At the U.S. Grand Prix, the top 20 finishers in the American Superbike and Daytona Sportbike classes, as well as the top 10 in the Supersport class at Laguna Seca will receive twice the amount they would regularly earn.

A longtime advocate for keeping trails open, Collins joins racing team owner Mitch Payton and racer David Emde in the 2010 class. Collins follows another off-highway rights activist, Mona Ehnes who was inducted to the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 2009.

The three-time World Superbike Champion says he will not come out of retirement after testing for the Ducati Xerox team during World Ducati Week at Italys Misano circuit. The declaration shuts down a rumor that Bayliss himself started during a previous test session.

All-time Grand Prix wins leader Giacomo Agostini will join the Yamaha Classic Racing Team at the Assen circuit for the June 26 MotoGP round for the 80th anniversary of the TT race.

A racing star from 1970-1976, Castro competed against some of the greatest racers of all time. Castro finished fifth in the standings in his rookie season with Triumph. After joining Yamaha in 1973, Castro won the San Jose, Calif., half-mile. Castro would win another National in 1974, beating his teammate Kenny Roberts to win the 250cc road race at Daytona.

The Aug. 29 Moto2 race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway will be American Honda first major factory road racing effort since withdrawing from AMA Pro Racing in 2009.

The Padgetts Honda rider won a shortened four-lap Senior TT by 37.77 seconds on the final day of the 2010 Isle of Man TT to complete a perfect five-for-five sweep of the solo classes. The previous record for wins in a single TT belonged to Phil McCallen who won four races in 1996 with a third place finish in the Lightweight 250 TT race.

The new Horex was unveiled at an event June 15 in Munich, Germany, after weeks of clues and teasers were released by a company calling itself Das Neue Motorrad (German for The New Motorcycle). The original Horex was founded in 1923 by glassware company Rex and operated until 1960 after the company was acquired by Daimler-Benz.

Schwantz will lead the team staffed by Kevin Erion and his Erion Racing technicians for American Hondas Moto2 wildcard entry at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Schwantz is best known for his long association with Suzuki so his selection to manage the Honda squad was unexpected. The 1993 500cc Grand Prix World Champion does have experience with using Honda CBR600RR motorcycles in the Schwantz Motorcycle Riding School however. The Moto2 series uses prototype bikes with engines based on the CBR600RR.

The Gregorys made JT Racing the top name in motocross gear during the 70s and 80s. JT Racing was an innovator in both motocross gear manufacturing and marketing. JT Racing was also one of the driving forces behind bringing nylon MX pants to the U.S.

The India-based company announced plans to nearly double production over the next three years. According to Royal Enfield, its current production facility has been running at full capacity for over a year, with 52,000 units expected for 2010. Royal Enfield plans to produce 70,000 units in 2011 and 90,000 in 2012 before breaking the 100,000 mark in 2013.

Dobbs, also known by his nickname Dobsy, died June 10 in a crash during the second Supersport race at the 2010 Isle of Man TT. Dobbs family is inviting the public to attend his funeral June 21 in Douglas, Isle of Man. Those attending are asked to dress as Dobsy would recognize you team shirts and marshal jackets very welcome.

The AMA Hall of Famer and star of the film On Any Sunday will enter the June 27 hill climb near Colorado Springs, Colo. Smith has competed in the Race to the Clouds before, winning the Colorado Celebrity 500 Motorcycle Run at the 1981 Pikes Peak Hill Climb.

Millions around the world are expected to take part in the event, now in its 19th year. Ride to Work Day encourages riders who dont normally do so to park their cars and use their motorcycles and scooters to commute to work. The demonstration is expected to triple the number of riders on the roads.

Based on the concepts first unveiled at the 2009 EICMA show in Milan as the KTM 125 Project, the new KTM naked motorcycle is the first of a new line of beginner models from the Austrian manufacturer. KTM is preparing the new bike as an early 2011 model, but first it needs a new name.

A three-time AMA Sidecar Racing National Champion, Coleman began competing in sidecar racing when he was a U.S. serviceman in Europe in the late 60s. Starting out as a passenger, Coleman later moved behind the handlebars as a rider.

Very little in the way of detail has been announced, but Kawasaki says the literbike will have a new engine, frame and suspension.

The Los Feliz Charter School for the Arts, a parent-initiated, non-profit, public elementary school, is selling raffle tickets at $40 each for the $72,500 MotoGP race replica.

A two-time Japanese Superbike champion, Yoshikawa will ride the Fiat Yamaha YZR-M1 while Rossi recovers from a broken leg. Yamaha expects Yoshikawa to race in three rounds, Catalunya in Spain, Sachsenring in Germany and the U.S. Grand Prix at Laguna Seca. After that, Yamaha will evaluate Rossis progress before deciding if Yoshikawa will race more rounds.

The new Brand 34 collection, named for Schwantzs signature number, includes several sweatshirts, T-shirts and hats. The entire line was designed by Aldo Drudi, the man who created Valentino Rossis various helmet designs.

The first of Ducati s 2011 models, the new Monster 796 will be presented at select dealerships across North America on the evening of June 25. Dealerships will begin offering test rides the following day.

The new 2010 MV Agusta F4, the first and likely only version to be produced under Harley-Davidson ownership, is now available at American dealerships. Re-engineered for 2010, the F4 received a new 998cc engine, more compact chassis and a lighter swingarm. Also new is a traction control system offering eight levels of adjustment.

Eyvind developed many of his innovations in an era of great change in performance off-road motorcycling, and in the process joined other AMA Motorcycle Hall of Famers in becoming a household name in the sport, says Jack Penton, AMA director of operations and himself a Hall of Famer. Both everyday riders and national champions alike used Boyesens products over the years, and many more will in years to come.

According to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the air filter frame on certain 2010 MV Agusta F4 units may lift out of position, allowing air to flow in unfiltered. This may allow debris to enter the throttle body assembly, interfering with throttle operation.

As previously announced, Agostini is scheduled to ride a lap of Assen on his 1975 Yamaha YZR500 OW23, the as part the Yamaha Classic Racing Team. The 1975 YZR500 was Agostinis last world championship, but the first 500cc/MotoGP title for Yamaha.

The Alitalia Aprilia rider took his fourth double of the season, including third in the last four rounds to extend his lead over Suzuki Alstares Leon Haslam to 37 points.

Instead, like the Honda CBF1000 and CB1000R we recently reviewed, and the recently announced Yamaha FZ8 and Fazer 8, it will be available north of the border.

An accomplished desert racer and longtime team manager of American Honda s off-road race teams, Ogilvie is the only racer to win the Baja 1000 overall in four different decades, most recently in 2003 at the age of 51. In addition to his success in the Baja 1000, Ogilvie also collected wins in the San Felipe 250 and the Baja 500. Ogilvie will be inducted posthumously, after succumbing to cancer in 2009.

Tracy completed the hill climb in 11:46.55, the only bike in the 1205cc class to finish under 12 minutes. Tracys time was also second best among all motorcycles in any class. Second place in the class went to Walker Pew who rode a 2008 Buell XBSTT. Alexander Smith, son of AMA Hall of Famer Malcolm Smith, also also rode the Ducati Multistrada 1200, finishing third with a time of 12:53.381.

The new Piaggio MP3 Hybrid 300ie comes a year after the release of the original 124cc version, which was the worlds first hybrid scooter. Piaggio is also producing a variant called the MP3 Hybrid LT 300ie, which has a wider separation between its front wheels, allowing it to be driven by those with a regular automobile drivers license.

 The Committee on Transportation voted 8-4 in approval of Senate Bill 435 which would require motorcycles built after Jan. 1, 2011 to use exhaust systems that meet sound emission standards. Riders found using 2011 and newer motorcycles without a federal Environmental Protection Agency label certifying sound emission compliance will be issued fix it tickets by law enforcement officers.

After a lengthy investigation, the EPA has voided certificates of conformity for vehicles issued in 2006 and 2007 to the U.S. arms of four Chinese manufacturers: Hensim USA of City of Industry, Calif., Loncin USA of Hayward, Calif., Peace Industry Group of Norcross, Ga., and Seaseng of Ponoma, Calif.

Back in November, BMW introduced its inline-six Concept 6 model at the 2009 EICMA show in Milan, Italy, with the news the engine will power future models in the companys K-series tourers. The future is now closer to becoming the present with the announcement of the upcoming BMW K1600GT and K1600GTL.

In a move designed to attract new, younger consumers, Honda will cut the prices of 45 models over the next three years. Prices are expected to drop from 10 to 30 percent, and will go into effect when each model receives a full or minor update.

According to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the left front brake hose on the 2010 Kawasaki Z1000 may come into contact with the brake rotor under hard braking. Such contact may damage the hose, potentially causing a brake fluid leak.

Details are still scarce, though Triumph has released a teaser video and a new website for the two models using the codename Triumph Adventure.  The new models will enter a suddenly competitive segment currently led by BMWs GS models, but with new contenders in the Ducati Multistrada 1200 and Yamaha Super Ténéré.

Fiat Yamaha rider fractured his right shin June 5 during a practice session for the Italian Grand Prix at the Mugello circuit and was expected to be out action at least until the July 25 U.S. Grand Prix at Laguna Seca.

Designed by Aldo Drudi, the American Honda Moriwaki M600 prominently features a large Honda wing and elements of the American Flag. Drudi also designed the racing leathers to be worn by the teams rider Roger Hayden.

Over the first six months of 2010, BMW sold 57,015 motorcycles worldwide, up from the 46,972 sold in the first half of 2009. The first half ended with 11,684 units sold in June, up 23.2% from the 9,402 units sold in 2009. June marked the sixth consecutive month BMW reported an increase in sales.

Rumors of Stoner reaching a deal with Honda began to surface in May but the news is now official. Stoner previously raced for the Honda LCR team in his rookie season in 2006, and in 2011, he will race for the factory team. Stoner will also be reunited with former Ducati team manager Livio Suppo who currently manages Hondas sponsorships.

US Highland President and founder Mats Malmberg, 41, Chief Operating Officer Chase Bales, 51, and Chief Financial Officer Damian Riddoch, 37, were returning to Tulsa July 10 after a business trip in Detroit. The three were en route to Jones Riverside Airport in Tulsa on a fixed-wing multi-engine Cessna.

The Aprilia Alitlalia racer has called Brno his favorite track Biaggi ended a two-year winless streak in Race One in 2009 to earn the Aprilia RSV4 its first WSBK victory and having won four consecutive races, Biaggi was favored to win again at Brno.

Barnes handily won the July 11 race by over a minute before 20,000 fans at Mosport International Raceway near Toronto, Canada. Barnes won the second round of the TTXGPs North American series in Road America and could have been a perfect three-for-three if he didnt have to restart his bike in the season opener at Infineon Raceway.

According to a report in British website Autocar, the German manufacturer will unveil a new electric scooter under the companys Smart brand.

The Tuning Fork Company plans to release three or four electric motorcycles, including business-use models, by the mid-2010s. By 2020, Yamaha aims to become the worldwide market leader in the electric motorcycle segment. Yamahas plans begin with the new EC-03 electric scooter, set to launch in Tokyo in Sept. 1 before expanding across Japan Oct. 1.

Rossi will be at Sachsenring for the German Grand Prix with the rest of the Fiat Yamaha MotoGP team, but his return to action is still pending approval from the events chief medical officer.

Second on the all-time AMA Superbike wins list (with 32 victories, behind only Mat Mladins 72 wins), Duhamel will team with southern California dealer Moto Forza and NovaTac Racing to ride a Ducati 1098R at the July 25 Laguna Seca round. Duhamel hasnt competed in an AMA Road Race since the 2009 Daytona 200.

K Squared Racing rider Kenyon Kluge, also Zeros director of engineering, will ride a modified Zero S. Kluge and K Squared Racing also competed in the first TTXGP race at Infineon Raceway, finishing fifth. The race was won by Shawn Higbee who raced for a joint entry by Zero Motorcycles and Agni Motors.

Located 10 miles northwest of Redding, the Chappie-Shasta OHV Area spans 52,000 acres and offers 200 miles of roads and trails. The land is currently under the control of the federal Bureau of Land Management as well as the U.S. Forest Service. Unanimously passed by the U.S. House on July 13, H.R. 689 would give the BLM full control over the land.

The Medina, Minn., manufacturer is returning as official sponsor for the festival, and for the first time, its bringing the Victory Riders Association which will hold its Sturgis party Aug. 12 at the Buffalo Chip.
