May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month, as promoted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The US Armed Forces use this annual opportunity to augment the motorcycle safety training of its personnel, at various locations around the world. Fort Knox has between 700 and 800 registered motorcyclists at any time, who are required to follow more stringent rules than those governing the state of Kentucky, such as wearing a helmet and attending an Army-approved Motorcycle Safety Course. At Fort Knoxs 2010 celebration of safe riding on two wheels, Mike Fitzgerald and Matthew Hickson carried the Öhlins USA flag into battle against unnecessary riding risks, taking charge of setting up the personal motorcycles of attending personnel.

SS Trike to Use S&S X-Wedge Engines

The Rudolph, Wis., trike manufacturer, will use the 117 cubic-inch (1,917cc) X-Wedge engine in all its models. The 56.25 degree V-Twin engine meets Environmental Protection Agency rules, making it legal in 49 states. SS Trike does not specify whether it is using the CARB-compliant version of the X-Wedge which would make it legal in California. According to SS Trike, the new engine offers more power than the previous power plant.

Bayliss Tests for Ducati WSBK Team

2011 Triumph Sprint GT Announced

The 2011 Triumph Sprint GT (for Grand Tourer) comes five years after the introduction of the Sprint ST. The Sprint GT uses an updated version of Triumphs 1050cc three-cylinder engine while a new side-mounted exhaust replaces the Sprint STs underseat pipe. According to Triumph, the Sprint GT gets more power (128 hp versus 123 hp) and torque (79.7 ft-lb. @ 6,300 rpm vs 76.0 ft-lb. @ 7,500 rpm) than the Sprint ST.
