Garelli owner submits bid for Moto Morini

Brother of Italian PM bids 2.9M euro

Paolo Berlusconi, brother of Italys Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, has reportedly emerged as the leading bidder in the sale of Moto Morini.

Italian publication Motociclismo reports Paolo Berlusconi, who also owns Garelli Motorcycles, has submitted a bid worth 2.9 million euro (US$3.9M) for Moto Morini which declared bankruptcy in September 2009. A consortium of businessmen led by a German Moto Morini dealer has also reportedly entered.

Berlusconi has also reportedly shown interest in acquiring MV Agusta from Harley-Davidson though that may that may die down if his bid for Moto Morini gets accepted.

Moto Morini ceased production two months after unveiling the updated Granpasso 1200.

Moto Morini introduced its updated Granpasso 1200 enduro motorcycle in October 2009 but the company ceased production in December.
