High Mileage 748 = Bad Idea?

Hello, I'm new to this forum but have been a reader of MO for a while now. Anyway, I'm looking to buy a motorcycle and am in love with the ducati superbikes, I always have been. just can't stop looking at them you know?
Get Motorcycle.com in your InboxI found a 1999 748 with 23k miles on it for just under $6k. How do these machines hold up? I know they're more maintenence intensive than the japanese bikes but I'm not sure quite what I'm in for if I buy this bike.
