BMW's New 1,300cc Boxer Engine
We usually like to focus on motorcycles for our galleries, but this time, we're taking a closer look at an engine, specifically the new Boxer powering BMW's 2024 R 1300 GS. As Ryan explored in his review of the new GS, the new engine is the biggest reason the latest model is lighter, more compact, and more powerful than any of its predecessors.
With a larger bore than the previous engine and a higher compression ratio, and the returning ShiftCam technology, BMW claims the new engine produces 145 hp at 7,750 and 110 lb-ft of torque at 6,500 rpm. Thanks to these engine cutaway photos, we can get a good look at the Boxer's inner workings.
