Full details on production model to be announced March 19

Husqvarna released preliminary details on a new Svartpilen 801 model, including footage of a prototype tearing it up in the dirt … and on ice. Husqvarna plays up the dirt oval and ice track riding as part of the Svartpilen 801’s “extensive testing process,” but let’s not kid ourselves. Husqvarna did this because it looks cool.

The prototype is covered up in Husqvarna camo, but it doesn’t do much to hide the familiar design cues it shares with the 401 model, or its predecessor, the Svartpilen 701. You still have a fuel tank cover with the stubby extensions on either side, and a blocky-looking radiator shroud.

The subframe has a more tapered shape than the 701, and it lacks the flat track inspired number plate on the right side as Husqvarna opted for a high exhaust mount on the 801. Husqvarna claims the Parallel-Twin engine produces 105 hp, but doesn’t provide much official detail. Thanks to homologation filings, we can confirm the engine is based on the 799cc Twin of KTM 790 Duke, with peak power coming at 9,250 rpm and the same claimed torque output of 64 lb-ft. at 8,000 rpm.

Husqvarna says the Svartpilen 801 will offer a “class-leading” package of electronic rider aids, including an Easy Shift bidirectional quickshifter. Adjustable WP suspension and a steering damper are part of the package, which tips the scales at a claimed 399 pounds (likely without fuel, as that’s how Pierer Mobility brands typically list weights).

We’ll know more, hopefully including U.S. availability and pricing on March 19.
