US Motorcycle Sales Continue to Decline
The industry trade group reports sales of 555,440 motorcycles and ATVs over the first three quarters of 2010, down from 679,806 units sold over the same period in 2009. Excluding ATVs, which had a 23.6% drop in sales, motorcycle sales decreased 15.3% to 368,752 units.
On-highway motorcycle sales totaled 265,095 units over three quarters, down 14.3% from 309,422 units sold in the same period in 2009. Off-road motorcycles showed a larger decrease, with 60,256 units sold, down 21.4% from the 76,613 units sold in 2009. Dual-sport motorcycles and scooters fared better but were still down from 2009 sales figures.
The MICs figures include data from 19 reporting manufacturers: Aprilia, Arctic Cat, BMW, Buell, Can-Am, Ducati, Harley-Davidson, Honda, Husaberg, Kawasaki, KTM, Moto Guzzi, Piaggio, Polaris, Suzuki, Triumph, Vespa, Victory and Yamaha.
