When Aprilia released word of its new 217-horsepower RSV4 last week, my reaction was “that’s too much,” naturally opening myself up to all kinds of ageist criticisms. 2019 Moto Guzzi V85 TT is Officially Official

The main items are that the new 853cc air-cooled 90-degree two-valver – the “eight and a half” – delivers maximum power of 80 horses and 80 Nm at 5,000 rpm, with 90% of said torque available at 3,750 rpm. Guzzi also says this is the first Moto Guzzi small block that can easily reach 8000 rpm. Titanium intake valves!

Spy Shots: 2019 Ducati Panigale V4 R!

Spy photographers have provided us with the first glimpse of the new 2019 Ducati Panigale V4 R, a 1000cc version of our recently-crowned 2018 MOBO Motorcycle of the Year. Designed to meet WSBK homologation requirements, the V4 R will form the basis of Ducati’s Superbike racing efforts for the foreseeable future. This particular motorcycle shows signs of being a racing spec version of the V4 R rather than the street legal production model, based on the presence of data acquisition components, the look of the rear subframe, lever guards, the carbon fiber faring and the lack of lights and mirrors.

Suzuki GSX-R150 First Look at AIMExpo

Suzuki showed off a GSX-R150 model at AIMExpo to gauge consumer interest in the small-displacement sportbike. The bike is already being offered in other markets, introduced in Asia earlier this year, and derived from the GSX-R125 that’s being sold in Europe. As it’s competitors push their entry-level sportbikes into larger displacements, Suzuki is considering going smaller and creating its own niche.

Prior to the company’s presentation at AIMExpo, Yamaha released details of a revised 2019 Yamaha R3. A welcome upgrade for the smallest R in the lineup, as the model hasn’t undergone any major revisions since its inception in 2015. Aprilia sprang its latest 201-horsepower superbike on the crowd in Cologne. While the RR might look pretty much the same on the outside, it’s what’s inside that counts – and the main addition is the fourth generation APRC electronics that keeps it all in check: Aprilia Performance Ride Control. Now there’s cornering ABS, a downshift-enabled quickshifter, and a host of other refinements including optional V4-MP which lets you access and download via smartphone corner-by-corner APRC calibration. It also manages incoming and outgoing phone calls. You could conceivably order a pizza on the last lap, should you find yourself coming over all peckish.

2019 Kawasaki Ninja 125 and Z125 Announced for Europe

Kawasaki revealed two small-displacement models for Europe’s A1 entry-level licensing tier. The 2019 Kawasaki Ninja 125 and Z125 share a 125cc engine, a full-size chassis with 17-inch wheels and similar styling to the larger Ninja and Z models. Unfortunately, neither model is likely to come to North America where there’s no equivalent to the A1 class to create enough of a market. It’s a shame, though, as these two look like they could be a lot of fun.

WOW! Ducati Scrambler is in New Venom Flick!

Here’s a quick 50-second teaser vid for the upcoming film “Venom,” in which Ducati North America CEO Jason Chinnock explains how the Scrambler reflects the lead character, Eddie, played by Tom Hardy. Does the bike wag the film or vice versa? The bike influences the stunts for sure, says Chinnock. “The bike helps move the action sequences along.” We’ll buy that. Ever since Mike Vaughn made them buy three Kawasaki Ninja 900s, movies have sold a lot of motorcycles.

Updated 2019 Yamaha YZF-R3 Revealed in Design Filings

Yamaha has registered a design for an updated YZF-R3, revealing a new look inspired by the R6. Prototypes of the redesigned bike (or, at least, the Asian market equivalent YZF-R25) were spotted in Indonesia earlier this year , but the photos were too blurry and dark to show much detail. The registered designs, filed Aug. 28 with patent offices in Australia and Turkey, offer us a much clearer look at the entry-level sportbike.

Indian has filed a patent application for a modular motorcycle design that may reveal the production version of the FTR1200 and perhaps a couple of model variants. The patent illustrations primarily show a motorcycle that closely resembles the FTR1200 Custom, a concept that itself is based on the FTR750 flat track racer. We know that the Indian FTR1200 will enter production in 2019, and the patent filings gives us an idea on what it will look like.
