About half of those “incidents” are medical problems and injuries, another quarter are vehicle problems including being stuck, and a fair chunk involve people just being lost. In any case, Garmin’s inReach technology allows for two-way text messaging, location tracking, and critical SOS emergency response services in places where your cell phone can’t help you – on a range of handheld devices for all kinds of outdoor adventurers. Who’s number three on the list of SOS senders? Motorcyclists.
lf you crash your Suzuki or have it stolen and you’re in Great Britain, Suzuki GB wants to make cleaning up the aftermath as painless as possible. Any Suzuki owner involved in an accident or theft only needs to dial up Suzuki First, a dedicated call center available 24/7. From there, the entire claims process, recovery, and repair, will be handled on the owner’s behalf – no prior sign-up required. Suzuki GB claims this is an industry first. Will it spread to the colonies?
Electrek reported a couple of weeks ago about a new electric scooter company coming to America. What’s different about VinFast is that it’s not just importing scooters to the US, it’s also importing a factory: The North Carolina facility, Electrek reports, is expected to break ground later this year, with production supposed to begin in 2024. The skids have reportedly been greased with a $1.2-billion incentive package from the state. There’s no need to get upset about US tax funds going to China, though, as VinFast is headquartered in Hanoi City, Vietnam.
Not having a motorcycle is no excuse for not attending this year’s Sturgis rally in the Black Hills of South Dakota. The official dates for this year’s rally are August 5 to Aug. 14.
Just like our beloved MO, SW Motech was founded in 1994 by a crazy motorcycle kid who didn’t know any better. But SW Motech has grown into its big feet, and is now a leading manufacturer of all kinds of premium motorcycle gear–including a whole new line for what will no doubt be the very successful new Kawasaki KLR650.
This just in over the transom: Our long-time moto pal and founder of MotoVentures, Gary LaPlante, could use some help in the medical bills department. Among those stepping up to help out is famed motorcycle artist, and legendary motorcycle rat cartoonist, Hector Cademartori. It’s your chance to do the right thing, and score some great art for the man cave in one swoop. Good luck, Gary.
