All Vehicles to Be Tracked in Brazil

A whole lotta stealin going on

Even if you’ve never played it, chances are you are familiar with the controversial Grand Theft Auto (GTA) video game franchise. The much anticipated GTA VI was released earlier this year where players are once again encouraged to steal cars, boats and helicopters but also motorcycles with reckless abandon.
Evidently this type of behavior has reached epidemic proportions in Brazil as authorities there have announced a plan for new vehicles to be fitted with tracking devices. The plan suggests phasing in the program to include all new vehicles sold by August 2010.

As many as 1.5 million vehicles in the South American country already have devices installed and in turn receive a lower rate on insurance. Can we expect this legislation to come to pass in the US? Companies like LoJack I’m sure would love for this to happen – buy your LOJN stock now!

Car owners would not be required to setup a satellite service and there are still many issues to work out but at the very least I can see it helping to curb amateur thievery. If your ride was still stolen, at least then you could feel assured that it would be in the hands of a professional.
