Gilera Through the Years
With Piaggio about to relaunch Gilera with the help of its Chinese partner, Zongshen, we thought it'd be a good time to take a look back at the Italian brand with a photo retrospective.

1940s Gilera 500 Marte with sidecar
The Gilera 500 Marte (pictured here with a sidecar) was designed for military use during WWII. After the war, it produced converted for civilian use.
Racing Success
Geoff Duke won the 500cc Grand Prix title on a Gilera in 1953, 1954 and 1955
1975-1989 Gilera CB1
Gilera still made some street-legal modles like the CB1, shown here in with cast wheels and a long seat. It was also available in a single-seat and with wire-spoke wheels.
Marco Simoncelli
Gilera made its return to road racing in the '90s. It won the 125cc title in 2001 with Manuel Poggiali and the 250 title with Marco Simoncelli, pictured here.
