Can anybody tell me why the starter on my DRZ400S stops working after, oh, about 20 minutes of running time? I'm guessing it's a heat thing, but would rather rely on expert opinion. I've turned off the bike after ten minutes or so and the starter works okay. But ride it for much longer, and nothing -- no click or anything. Otherwise the electrics seem to work fine, but I have to push the *&%^ thing to get it to fire up.
Bonus hint: There's also a tinny, intermittent, arrhythmic clank or rattle in fourth gear that seems to come from the left side of the crank case. This symptom appeared at the same time as the starter problem, though may be unrelated.
Thanks all.
