'Tis the season for MOBOs!

Motorcycle.com’s Best Of (MOBO) award season has finally rolled around again! While we typically roll out each year’s MOBOs before EICMA, this year we were so busy with the Heavyweight Naked Shootout that we decided to delay the MOBOs. Although the bulk of the 2022 motorcycle models have been announced, the 2021 model year isn’t officially over until all the accolades have been handed out. So, let’s get started!

As tradition dictates, the Motorcycle.com staff gathered to duke it out over personal favorite motorcycles. Where disagreements were encountered, we, in an example that should be followed by the folks in Washington, negotiated until the conflict was resolved. In the end, we’re all pretty happy with the results.

This year we spent the Summer naked – on both large- and small-displacement naked bikes – and let our fun run almost to Winter, but that’s not all we rode. We started Spring with a middleweight adventure touring shootout and set the standard for a year of big shootouts. Sprinkled throughout the rest of the year were the variety of tests you’ve come to expect from MO.

As always, our requirements for MOBO eligibility are pretty straightforward: MO must have tested the bike during the model year, and the bike must be available to the public at the time of publication. Naturally, that leaves a couple of strong contenders for next year, already. What a time to be motorcyclists!

We’re starting this very day with the MOBO for Best Technology and following up on Tuesday with the Best Lightweight. Every weekday thereafter, we’ll unveil a new winner plus the runner-up. The celebration will come to a conclusion on December 10th with the announcement of the 2021 Motorcycle of the Year.

Grab a hot beverage that befits the season and let the festivities begin.

Like most of the best happenings in his life, Evans stumbled into his motojournalism career. While on his way to a planned life in academia, he applied for a job at a motorcycle magazine, thinking he’d get the opportunity to write some freelance articles. Instead, he was offered a full-time job in which he discovered he could actually get paid to ride other people’s motorcycles – and he’s never looked back. Over the 25 years he’s been in the motorcycle industry, Evans has written two books, 101 Sportbike Performance Projects and How to Modify Your Metric Cruiser, and has ridden just about every production motorcycle manufactured. Evans has a deep love of motorcycles and believes they are a force for good in the world.
