Wrong mounting bolts may cause calipers to detach

Yamaha is recalling certain 2022 Ténéré 700 models because of a risk of the front brake calipers detaching. The recall affects 211 units in the U.S.

According to recall documents released by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, front brake calipers on some models may have been installed with bolts that have an incorrect thread length.

These bolts may cause damage to the mounting hole threads in the caliper after repeated removal or re-installation, such as for routine service. Over time, the damage could be enough that the front brake calipers may detach, resulting in the loss of braking ability and increasing the risk of a crash.

Yamaha Motor Corp. U.S.A. was notified of the problem by its parent company in June, and began a quality control review and testing, recall procedures were initiated.

Dealers will inspect the caliper mounting bolts on recalled units to determine if the correct bolts are installed. The correct bolts should be size M10x1.25 with a length of 40 mm and a thread length of 20 mm. Any other bolts will need to be replaced. Dealers will also inspect the calipers and replace them if the threads are damaged.

There is also a recall on the extra 75 extra pounds they shipped with this bike. In my day, any off-road bike over 220 pounds was considered a PIG. In present days, pigs run rampant.

You either meant, “race bike” (which the Teneré is not) or 320lbs…? My Big Red Pig weighs 385-ish.. I wish it was closer to 320, and curious as to why we can’t have the T weigh closer to the Pig than a cruiser. Even “Pig weight” would be cool.
