This video perfectly illustrates why Matthew Phillips is a 4 time Enduro World Champion.  In this short video, he nearly endos, hits a tree, and then almost dumps his bike, but somehow he managed to right himself and be back on course while losing minimal time.

When you’re an amateur racer, you fight for everything. You fight to be able to afford to make it to the next round, you fight to get your name in front of factory sponsors and you fight just to make it to the main event. Tyler Enticknap is an amateur Supercross racer who was poised to make the first main event of his career when he got tangled up with Devin Raper at the East Rutherford New Jersey round of the Monster Energy Supercross.

Apparently, this rider never read our  Riding Safe: Crash Avoidance article from 2012. If he had he would have come across this nugget of riding wisdom. Ride Paranoid: They are out to get you. Every moving vehicle within visual proximity is not to be trusted. Whether it’s a left turn, lane merge, U-turn, running a red light, etc., you must always assume the driver of another vehicle lacks all reasonable intelligence and will execute any maneuver necessary to inflict maximum harm upon you.

Evidently this promoter needed an obstacle that would both provide a challenge to the racers and some entertainment for the spectators. We’d say he hit a home run.

Seriously, this all could have been avoided had he simply been paying attention. Luckily, he doesn’t seem injured, but the bike is going to require some TLC (small price to pay). The rider gets to walk from this incident as a (hopefully) better motorcyclist and for sure a good bench racing story.
