Rizla Suzuki Unveils 2011 GSV-R Racebike
The 2011 Rizla Suzuki GSV-R features an updated engine that, according to Suzuki, offers improved horsepower, driveability and durability while offering better acceleration, especially out of slower corners.
Engine durability was a particular concern for the team in 2010 as riders Loris Capirossi and Alvaro Bautista had used almost all of their allotted six engines in the first half of the season. The Grand Prix commission decided to create an exemption which allowed Suzuki to use an additional three engines for each rider.
Suzuki also updated the chassis stiffness and weight balance, and upgraded the ECU software to offer more precise traction and wheelie control.
Troy Lee Designs, which designed the GSV -Rs livery last season, updated its design, adding black spikes and a revised Rizla logo.
Bautista will be the lone Suzuki rider on the 2011 MotoGP grid. The Spanish racer finished 13th in the 2010 championship with two fifth-place finishes in his rookie year. With only one rider this season, Suzuki has raised speculation it would not continue racing in the series after its contract with MotoGP promoter Dorna ends after the 2011 season.
Rizla Suzuki has not commented on what will happen beyond this season, but the team did note the 2011 racebike will be the final generation of the 800cc GSV-R four-stroke, with the MotoGP class switching to a 1000cc displacement limit in 2012.
