Harley-Davidson India announced its inaugural lineup at the 2010 India Auto Expo. The Motor Companys display at the Auto Expo featured a custom-painted Fat Boy, expected to be the first Harley-Davidson model to available in India. Other models representing Harley-Davidsons five motorcycle families will also be introduced.

The Fat Boy will be joined by the Heritage Softail Classic in the Softail family. The Dyna family will be represented by the Street Bob and Super Glide Custom. The Touring line-up will consist of the Road King, Street Glide and the Ultra Classic Electra Glide CVO. The Night Rod Special will be the lone V-Rod model. The Sportster family will be represented by the XL883L Sportster Low and the XL1200N Nightster, as well as the unavailable-in-North-America XL883R Roadster and blacked-out XR1200X.

India is the worlds second-largest market for motorcycles. Indian motorcycle sales are dominated by small, inexpensive bikes, but Harley-Davidson is targeting the countrys growing middle class.

Prices range from Rs 6,95,000 (US$15,040) for the Sportster Low, to Rs 34,95,000 (US$75,755) for the CVO Ultra Classic Electra Glide. Those figures seem high compared to their American prices ($6,999 for the Sporster Low and $35,999 for the CVO Ultra Classic Electra Glide). By comparison, however, Yamaha Motor India announced its 2010 R1 will retail for Rs 12,50,000 (US$27,094), compared to its American price of $13,290.

Harley-Davidson India is expected to open dealerships in New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chandigarh. Orders will be accepted in April with delivery commencing in June.
