Top-selling motorcycle celebrated
By Motorcycle.Com Staff, Jul. 23, 2008
Honda celebrated the 50th anniversary of its Super Cub in a ceremony July 21 at the new Kumamoto factory where the popular motorcycle is produced. The small-displacement bike, which recently passed the 60-million milestone, is the highest selling motorcycle of all time.
The reason we have been able to continue producing and selling Super Cub for 50 years, which is quite a long time, is because of our customers who enjoy using Super Cub every day,
says Takeo Fukui, president and CEO of Honda Motor Co, Ltd. Super Cub has continuously advanced to accommodate the needs and preferences of people throughout the world, and cumulative worldwide production of Cub series motorcycles reached the 60 million-unit milestone in April of this year.
First introduced in 1958, the Super Cub has been sold in more than 160 countries and is produced in 16 factories in 15 countries, including the facility at Kumamoto, Japan, which began operations in April.
