2008 Yamaha V Star Silverado

I purchased the motorcycle used from its second owner. It only had 1334 miles on it because the first owner had it for 8 years and only drove it a couple miles a day during the summer months, and the 2nd owner put the majority of the miles on it just riding it back and forth to his local town, hence ... the low mileage for a 2008. So as far as the bike goes as the photo depicts it has been well taken car of by both previous owners. I myself have only put about 200 miles on the bike in the month since I bought it but that's mainly because I have been working so much and being a nurse it's not really feasible to ride back and forth to my workplace all the time since I am only about 10nkiles away. But as far as the performances goes it isn't lacking in power thru the first 3 gears as it has a lot of low end torque, but on into 4th and 5th gears is were you start to see that it's a 650. Now as far as locally it's been spectacular to drive and I have yet to have it out on the interstate as we dont have one close by to try it out on. It starts the first time and if I had one complaint it would be the extended amount of time you have to let it warm up even it warmer temperatures, usually 30 plus seconds until its idling on it's on without the choke. Now to the looks of the bike. It is very well put together for what even a new one costed in 2008. The Silverado package gives you practically everything you would ever want in a cruiser/touring type bike. Only complaints is the lack of a tachometer or a fuel gauge. Yamaha should have added both of them as at the least a purchasable option on the bike but they weren't offered. Seems reall easy on gas as the tank still had quite a but of gas in it, I'd say more then half full easily. Did like the lack of color options on the bike when it was sold new as I looked at a 2007 VStar prior to purchasing my 2006 Harley Davidson 883 Custom which I sold a few years back because I had just gotten to the point that it was just to rough a ride for me as I have aged and i wanted more of a cruiser type bike for the wife and I to take extended weekend rides on and a Harley Sportster is not an extended ride type bike especially for 2 people. So to end this review I will say that like most others have said the bike is s great one with no major issues to worry a potential buyer about but if your looking for raw power and top end speed by something 1300 or bigger. But if your looking for a good cruiser bike to enjoy on semi long trips under let's say 150 miles without a rest stop then the VStar 650 might be a good choice for you. In closing ride hard but be safe and always watch what the other drivers on the ride are doing because they more than likely aren't looking at you.

If I had $10 for every time I've reached for 6th gear on this bike I'd have enough $ to buy something with 6 speeds, lol. Overall though, great bike, I get 44mpg as long as I keep off the freeway. Freeway mpg is lower, but if there was a 6th gear...but I digress.

Get one, it's light, ... low and powerful for the price, good middleweight cruiser!

I love my bike I have Lupus and I can't ride far but it's wonderful. however I went out one day to start it and it starts with the choke but you push choke in it dies, when you try to roll back and give it gas, it dies I don't know whats up it was fine couple weeks ago after a ride parked in my garage. ... checked fuses, filled full with gas,checked fuel switch is on. It only has 600 miles. any suggestions please let me know.

This is a nice bike. It looks good,rides nice. I added extended floor boards out of Canada because the flat ones from the factory made long rides uncomforatable. The new floorboards look better and make a 100% better ride. The gear ratio's are made for town driving. They are close and the top speed ... is around 70 and it sounds like its going to blow up. If you want a cruiser that is distance road worthy you need to go to the 1300cc silverado. The gear ratio's on this bike is perfect. If Yamaha put a wider gear ratio and top end gear on its 650cc it would be perfect. Just a note for new buyers the 1100cc suffers from the same close ratio transmission problem. You only have the good road gears on the 1300cc bike. Are you listening Yamaha? Everyone I know who has a 650 or 1100 is always trying to shift to 5th a couple of times because the engines screaming and they think they missed 5th. But they find that's 5th and there isn't anymore top end. Yamaha if you make the transmission change you have the perfect bike.

I bought this bike in August and have since put 2,ooo plus miles on it. It is a great around town bike. Has some zip to it. It sounds good and is very comfortable. I have not gotten the 49 mpg that Yamaha claims. I average around 39 in town and 40 fully loaded on the highway. I didn't give it full ... marks in performance to reflect this. It is a fantastic looking bike and I get a lot of complements on it. For highway touring it is a little underpowered. You can cruise at 70 mph, 80 mph seems to be about top speed.
