2018 BMW Models Updated With New Color and Equipment Options
BMW announced its initial batch of models returning for 2018 with new colors and optional equipment. We’ve already written about the two most notable changes, a new ex works customization program called BMW Motorrad Spezial for RnineT and touring models, plus a new optional Bluetooth-connected 6.5-inch TFT display for the R1200GS and R1200GS Adventure, called the “Connectivity Option.” Several models also receive Emergency Call feature, though this will only be available in Europe. The rest of the announcement includes cosmetic changes and revisions to BMW’s various optional packages
One word of caution before we go into the details; these are preliminary updates and are not exhaustive. Like all manufacturers, BMW will announce further new models and updates through the year. Heck, last year at around this time, BMW announced the 2017 R1200GS would just get some Euro4-mandated updates and a revised instrument panel, and then went and announced revised fairings and two new Exclusive and Ralleye variants at EICMA. So, if your favorite Beemer got an update (or didn’t) announced, just bide your time.
2018 BMW R1200GS and R1200GS Adventure
The R1200GS and R1200GS Adventure get the Emergency Call feature (at least, in Europe), the Connectivity Option and revised LED Auxilliary lights as new equipment options. The GSA also gets:
- Pro riding modes with additional “Dynamic” and “Enduro” riding modes. Using a coding plug, the “Dynamic” mode is changed to “Dynamic Pro” and the “Enduro” mode to “Enduro Pro” mode. The Pro riding mode continues to feature ABS Pro, dynamic brake light, Dynamic Traction Control DTC as well as Hill Start Control HSC (optional equipment).
- Dynamic ESA next generation with automatic damping adjustment and automatic self-levelling function (optional equipment).
- Keyless Ride as a new component of the Touring Package (optional equipment).
- Shift Assistant Pro as a new component of the Dynamic Package (optional equipment).
- Passenger package with standard windshield and standard seat (optional equipment).
- High Rallye seat (optional equipment).
- LED auxiliary headlights in new design (optional equipment).
- New colour Racing red, black frame, black brake callipers, silver fuel tank.
- Style Rallye (pictured in the lead image above): new colour Light white/Cordoba blue, Cordoba blue frame, gold brake callipers, Cordoba blue fuel tank with large logo, Rallye seat, radiator and frame protection, short windshield.
- Style Exclusive: new colour Black storm metallic/Dark slate metallic matt/Achat grey, frame Achat grey, gold brake callipers, Dark slate metallic fuel tank with large logo.
- The colours Racing red matt and Light white are no longer available.
2018 BMW R1200RT
The biggest change to the R1200RT is the banking-optimized ABS Pro mode (with dynamic brake light) as standard equipment. Here are the announced updates:
- ABS Pro including dynamic brake light as standard.
- Emergency Call (optional equipment).
- Dnamic Traction Control DTC (in conjunction with the Pro riding modes optional equipment).
- RT logo embossed on passenger seat.
- BMW Motorrad Spezial parts (special paintwork and equipment).
- Style Elegance: Carbon black metallic, windshield covers and chrome-plated handlebar weights, chrome pannier trim, gold brake callipers, silver wheel rims, silver drivetrain.
- Style Sport: new colour Mars red metallic / Dark slate metallic matt with tapes, gold brake callipers, Sport windshield, Asphalt grey wheel rims, black drivetrain.
- The paint finish Platinum bronze is no longer available.
2018 BMW R1200R
Iced chocolate metallic? Sure, we’ll if that’s what BMW wants to call this, we’ll go with it.
- Style Exclusive: new colour Iced chocolate metallic, gold brake callipers, stainless steel fuel tank cover, Achat grey metallic matt frame, tape on fuel tank.
- The paint finish Thunder grey metallic will no longer be available.
2018 BMW R1200RS
Frozen bronze metallic/Black storm metallic. Huh. Doesn’t look much different from Iced chocolate metallic.
- Style Exclusive: new colour Frozen bronze metallic/Black storm metallic, gold brake callipers, stainless steel fuel tank cover, Frozen bronze metallic engine spoiler, Achat grey metallic matt frame.
- New colour Blackstorm metallic.
- The paint finish Lupin blue metallic will no longer be available.
2018 BMW S1000XR
The S1000XR is the latest to get BMW’s red, white and blue motorsport livery.
- Style HP: new HP Motorsport colours (Light white/Racing blue metallic/Racing red) including Pro seat with stitched XR-logo (from 09/2017).
- The paint finish Light white/Granite grey metallic/Racing red will no longer be available.
2018 BMW C650 Sport
Goodbye Valencia orange, hello Austin yellow.
- New paint finish Austin yellow metallic.
- The paint finish Valencia orange metallic matt will no longer be available.
2018 BMW C650GT
- New paint finish Ocean blue metallic matt.
- The paint finish Frozen bronze metallic will no longer be available.
2018 BMW K1600GT, K1600GTL and K1600B
The Spezial custom parts add an extra touch of luxury to the already posh K1600GT and K1600GTL. They, and the new K1600B, also have redesigned optional LED auxiliary lighting.
- LED auxiliary headlights in new design (optional equipment).
- BMW Motorrad Spezial parts for K 1600 GT and K 1600 GTL (special paint finishes and optional equipment).
2018 BMW F700GS and F800GS
Both F700GS and F800GS models get a new blue color. Of course, BMW is expected to introduce a replacement in the next year or two, likely to be called an F900GS.
- New paint finish Racing blue metallic in conjunction with Light white frame colour.
- The paint finish Racing Red for the F700GS and the Ostra grey metallic for the F800GS are no longer available. The paint finish Catalano grey metallic will no longer be available for the F800GS Adventure.

Thanks Dennis. I was pretty disappointed with the RS offerings which amount to nothing except some apparently dull colour changes so will wait for EICMA and hope. Actually while I'm hoping this bike gets some attention that it deserves (and needs) what I really hope for is an S because the RS is too bolt upright and there are no options, even aftermarket, to give it a more sporting stance. BMW call it a sportbike alongside the S1000RR but, come on, it's like leaning slightly forward on grandpa's comode. Such a shame because the RS is really a great bike with much potential.
