Road-going V-Strom coming for 2024

We first broke news that a road-focused version of the V-Strom 800DE was coming earlier this summer, and now, we have the first official photos of the 2024 Suzuki V-Strom 800.

The two photos were published in updated certifications in Australia for the V-Strom range, adding information about the non-DE model. Most of the updated data confirmed what we already learned from certifications from Switzerland, including the 59.6-inch wheelbase, tire sizes and a 15-pound weight reduction compared to the V-Strom 800DE.

The certification photos were published at a very low resolution, so we enlarged the images and applied a slight sharpening filter to improve visibility without changing any details. The most obvious visual difference between the two is the change from wire spoke to cast wheels. We already know the V-Strom 800 will come equipped with a 110/80-19 front tire compared to the 800DE’s 90/90-21 tire, and the photos confirm changes in tire and wheel sizes.

The changes are apparent when you compare the new photo with an image of the V-Strom 800DE from a similar angle.

It’s also apparent the non-DE model has different suspension. The certification data does not provide any technical information on the suspension, but it’s probably safe to assume the road-focused model will not have as much suspension travel as the more off-road capable V-Strom 800DE.

We can also see the V-Strom 800 lacks the hand guards and bash plate found on the DE model, which may account for some of the weight reduction. It looks like the V-Strom 800 will come standard with the high windscreen offered as an accessory for the V-Strom 800DE. This would explain the 1.8-inch height increase shown in the Swiss certification.

The accessory high screen is 3.1 inches taller than the V-Strom 800DE's stock screen. The taller shield combined with shorter-travel suspension and a smaller front wheel may account for the V-Strom being 1.8 inches taller.

With the V-Strom 800, a GSX-8R sportbike and a GSX-S1000X adventure-esque sport-tourer all appearing in certification data over the summer, it’s becoming apparent Suzuki has a good roster of new models for the 2024 introduction season. We expect Suzuki will reveal these three models, and possibly more, at EICMA in November.
