2003 YZF R1

It's amazing, just when ya think they could'nt make a better bike.

Bammm! Yamaha kicked it up a knotch!

I feel as though the stock power delivery is clean through the band, the handling whether on street or on track is exceptional. Last buy surely not least..............Sexy Sexy Sexy!

Perfect Sports Bike

I just bought a used 2004 R1. To be frank, when I read some reports about "the beast", I was a bit concerned whether a 180 horsepower bike was the right decision.



Well, it was: this big bike is amazingly easy to handle. I was surprised that it does not feel heavier than some 400 cc bike...s. And about acceleration, of course no complaints with this ratio of power:weight. At the same time no tendency to do unintended wheelies. Perfect.

Only two things to get used too: the clutch is extremely hard. And the front brakes really bite. I never made the front tire of any other bike scream like this. But still it always feels under control.

And of course, the bike is not ideal for touring. And forget about long distance rides with a passenger. But you know that when you buy a sports bike, right?

Simply the best! Ex-owner of a '98 & '99 R1.

I owned a GSXR1100 when I read the write-up on the new R1 in '98. I quickly sold my GSXR & purchased a '98 R1. I was blown away by the difference between the 2 bikes & was stunned by it's performance. I fitted the bike with a full Arrow system & K&N. In '99 I traded it in on the '99 ...model which I swapped the exhaust over to. I then fitted it with manifold-injected Nitrous Oxide for a little more fun. At 13000km I stripped the engine & fully blueprinted it; had the head ported & flowed, ceramic coated the piston tops & teflon coated the skirts, lightened the crank, shaved the head to raise the compression, fitted V&M cams & refitted the NOS. It was truely a force to be reckoned with making 172rwhp n/a & over 240rwhp (with wheelspin) using the nitrous; & with the rear sprocket changed to a 40 tooth had the legs to outrun ANY other make of roadbike. 300+kph was a regular thing & 240kph wheelstands! I currently do not own one but nevertheless, they are so much fun with power to burn. AAA+ from me! Read Full Review
