Royal Star Tour Deluxe
By (I am an Owner) on May 05, 2010I owned one of these bikes until last year, I owned it for 3 years and put 30,000 miles on it. For the most part I was satisfied with the bike. It received looks everywhere I went. Black and chrome is a tough look to beat when it comes to style.
The motor is a roughly 1300 cc V-4, and ... provides enough power to get you into trouble if you want to. I'm a big guy 6'2" tall and 300 lbs and it had no problems hauling me and a passenger.
Also being a big guy, when selecting this bike one of my requirements was to find a bike I didn't feel huge on. I tested an 1100 shadow, a VTX 1300, and passed by a v-star 1100, The royal star was a much better fit for me than these bikes.
As far as reliability went problems were few and far between. I had a headlight switch burnout. My Avon Venom X tires performed flawlessy and wore well. The only thing major is the reason I sold the bike, at 58k miles it decided it didn't want to kick the shifter back into place after shifting, leading to a pain in the butt process of having to tap the shifter down after each shift.
In Conclusion, the royal star was a great bike. tough to beat styling, good performance, good reliability, but after 58k miles it was going to need a larger repair that involved more than lubing up the linkages.
