It's turning me into a scooter enthusiast
By (I am an Owner) on Jul 31, 2012The purchase of my Vespa was a compromise to begin with. I wanted a new Triumph Bonneville. My wife (with her history as a nurse who worked in too many emergency rooms) wanted a minimum of four wheels under me. The Portofino Green paint and the vintage styling touches seduced her, and to me, it ... seemed like a fair way to get back on two wheels. And when I'm truthful with myself, if I'm going more than 50 miles I want my cup holders, air conditioning, and SiriusXM radio anyway. My car has not been driven in two months. Anywhere I go, I take the Vespa. Added a top case with backrest and I literally take "Sophia" everywhere, even shopping. Fit and finish are excellent, frame is substantial, brakes are more than adequate, comfort is surprising. Now that I have a Nolan helmet with N-Com electronics, I even have my music. Top speed is somewhat higher than Vespa claims, fuel economy is a little lower, gas gauge is never accurate, and leather seat requires conscientious protection from weather here in southeast U.S. But very few things in my life cause me to spontaneously laugh out loud. Maybe that's what a scooter is really all about.
