By Motorcycle.Com Staff, Feb. 22, 2011
Yamaha unveiled its factory MotoGP race livery as the team begins its pre-season testing at Malaysias Sepang circuit.

Just like its World Superbike team, Yamaha s factory MotoGP team does not yet have a title sponsor. Instead, Yamaha is celebrating its 50th year of Grand Prix racing with its M1 bikes in the companys corporate blue color and speed block design.

Reigning MotoGP Champion Jorge Lorenzo and Texass Ben Spies will debut the new livery at the Feb. 22-24 Sepang test.

Im very happy to be here again preparing to start another season riding with Yamaha, says Lorenzo. Winning the World Championship last season was an incredible feeling, but now we start again. I have a great crew and with the hard work of the Japanese engineers over the winter I feel confident we can fight for more success this year.

Spies has the difficult task of replacing nine-time World Champion Valentino Rossi on the factory Yamaha squad. The former WSBK and AMA Superbike champion acquitted himself well in his MotoGP debut season, winning the 2010 MotoGP Rookie of the Year award and finishing sixth in the standings with two podium appearances and nine top-five finishes.

Testing at the Sepang circuit in Malaysia is already underway.

We worked really hard last year to earn the seat with the Yamaha Factory team so it's a great feeling to be here alongside Jorge, says Spies. Its obviously a special year for Yamaha with the 50th Anniversary of GP racing celebrations so Im really stoked to be par t of it. The bikes feeling really good, we've got a few days more of testing now to really shake it down and fine tune the set up and well be ready to go. Im loving the corporate blue color scheme, Im a big fan of the design.
