Yamaha Reports First Half 2010 Results
The Japanese manufacturer announced net sales of 676.2 billion yen (US$7.8 billion) over the six months ended June 30, 2010. Motorcycles accounted for 476.5 billion yen (US$5.5 billion) in sales, an increase of 16.2% from the same period in 2009.
Yamaha sold 3.5 million motorcycles worldwide over the first half of 2010, up 30% from the first half of 2009. The bulk of Yamahas sales came in the Asian market (excluding Japan) which accounted for 3 million units.
North American sales were less positive however. Yamaha sold 35,000 units over the first half, down more than half from the 75,000 units sold across North America in the same period in 2009.
Yamaha raised its 2010 year-end net sales forecast but predicts North American sales to continue to decline over the rest of the year.
