Ben Thompson has parted ways with Aprilia’s factory AMA racing team.

The two-time WERA national champion and the KWS Motorsports-run Aprilia team agreed to the immediate separation.

Thompson raced with KWS in 2008, riding a Suzuki bike in the AMA Superstock class, and re-signed with the team in December when it received factory support from Aprilia.

“It’s not been an easy decision but things simply weren’t working out the way I, or the team hoped they would, which wasn’t good for anyone,” says Thompson. “I’d like to thank the team, Millennium Technologies, and Aprilia for their faith in me starting the 2009 season.”

After seven rounds, Thompson sits 25th in the standings, with his best result on the Aprilia RSV1000R coming in May 3 in the second race of the Barber Motorsports Park round.

Ben Thompson wasn't able to transform the Aprilia RSV1000R into a winner.Meanwhile, teammate Chaz Davies is seventh in the standings with nine top-ten finishes including a season-best second at the July 5 Laguna Seca round.

“I simply felt that I couldn’t move forward with the bike. My performances weren’t what I, or the team, hoped they’d be, which I think everyone could see,” says Thompson. “I could never get the bike to work for me the way I wanted and needed. The team adjusted the bike, and I adjusted my riding style but it simply wasn't enough. The team worked hard to give me what I wanted but in the end I felt it was better to walk away. I’d like to wish Millennium Technologies, KWS Motorsports, and Aprilia all the best for the rest of this season.”
