Cycle World's off-road editor, Jimmy Lewis, has just won the prestigious Dubai rally on his BMW R900RR.

Enduring the five-day race, officially known as the United Arab Emerites Desert Challenge, the Californian came out more than 14 minutes ahead of his nearest competitor, the KTM-mounted Carlo de Gavardo from Chile.

"Actually the race was easy," said Lewis upon returning home. "I've been training for Dakar and the UEA race is like a five-star rallye. The days are pretty short, 400-500 Km and quitefast. I just waited for the navigation to play into my favor and made themost of it."

With the Paris-Dakar rally just around the corner, Lewis has a good head of steam and will be one to watch in the near future.
