John Hopkins to Race British Superbikes
Hopkins will ride the Suzuki GSX-R1000 for the satellite team for the 2011 BSB season. A native of Ramona, Calif., Hopkinsparents originated from London, making his journey to the British series a bit of a homecoming.
Im totally stoked about coming to Britain to race with Crescent in BSB, as this will feel a bit like coming home because I have so many friends and family over in the UK, says Hopkins. Im 100% fit now and this will give me a great a great chance to prove that Im still able to be competitive at the highest level.
Hopkins is expected to bring sponsorship from Monster Energy to the team which has had a rough few months. Crescent Suzuki was Suzukis factory BSB team up until late 2010 when the manufacturer decided to change its support to the TAS Racing team. Crescent also lost the support of key sponsor Worx which followed Suzuki to TAS.
Ive never been as excited about a BSB season as I am about 2011 its great to keep the team together and to be working with John again is a real opportunity, says Paul Denning, team owner. This isnt about money or politics for either of us its about ambition and determination, and John is putting everything he can into this. Its been a tough couple of months for the BSB team, but the loyalty and support of so many partners and friends has been superb were looking to repay them and I hope we add significantly to the excitement of the superb BSB series in 2011.
Denning is also the manager of Suzukis MotoGP team which employed Hopkins in the 2003-2007 MotoGP seasons.
