H-D Reaches Deal With Kansas City Unions
Union representatives from International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local 176 and United Steelworkers Local 760 will bring the proposed agreement back to its members Feb. 23 with plans to vote on the deal on Feb. 28.
Harley-Davidson’s Kansas City plant employs 800 workers including 675 union members. The 358,000 square foot facility houses the Motor Company’s vehicle and powertrain operations, producing Harley-Davidson’s Sportsters, Dyna and V-Rod models.
Details have not been released, but it’s expected the Kansas City workers will have to make similar concessions to what Harley-Davidson’s Wisconsin unions agreed to in Sept. 2010. The Wisconsin agreement included job cuts and allows for a two-tiered system of full time employees and part time “casual” workers.
The Kansas City unions’ current collective bargaining agreements end in July 2012.
