Buell 1125R wins at Road America

Bike's first major North American victory
By Motorcycle.Com Staff, Jun. 11, 2008
The Buell 1125R earned its first major North American race winin the MOTO-ST Road America 500K on June 7.

The Bruce Rossmeyers Daytona Racing duo of Shawn Higbee and Steve Crevier took the SuperSport Twins class and the overall win, competing 36 laps at the Elkhart Lake, Wisc. circuit.

Lightning storms delayed the race and shortened its length from the scheduled three hours to an hour and 40 minutes. With a sporadic drizzle throughout the race, had to rely on their wet tires.

The Rossmeyer Buell started from the pole but feel as far back as fourth while the Ducati 848 ridden by Doug Polen and Brian Stokes took the early lead. The 1125R made its way back to the top and controlled the lead from lap 17 onwards.

I dont have a lot of rain experience at this track, says Higbee. We were a little conservative early and after about ten laps, a dry line started to appear. Then it started drizzling just as I was getting happy with the track and I think that was a defining moment. I backed it down a lot and from then on the race seemed to go my way.

The race was the debut for Crevier on team Rossmeyer. The win was a great finish to a weekend that saw the six-time Canadian Superbike champion fall in an accident during practice sessions.

It was crazy out there, says Crevier. We thought about going to a slick tire on the final stint, but didnt want to take the chance in case we got downpour.

The MOTO-ST series will continue at Barber Motorsport Park in Birmingham, Ala. July 19-20.
