2011 Ducati 848EVO unveiled

848 replacement offers higher performance at same price

Ducati is replacing its 848 middleweight sportbike with a new EVO version, offering more horsepower and torque at the same price.

The 2011 Ducati 848EVO runs on an updated Testastretta engine with revised inlet port shapes and larger elliptical throttle bodies. The piston crown and combustion chamber shape have also been updated, increasing the compression ratio to 13.2:1 from 12:1. New camshafts provide higher valve-lift and increased inlet duration.

The result, Ducati claims, is 140hp at 10500rpm, up from the 2010 Ducati 848’s claimed 134hp at 10000 rpm. Torque also gets a bump, reaching 72.3 ft-lb. at 9750rpm compared to the previous model’s 70.8 ft-lb. at 8250rpm. According to Ducati, the 848EVO can go 7,500 miles between service intervals thanks to improvements in design, materials and engineering techniques.

Ducati also upgraded the brakes to the same Brembo Monobloc brakes as found on the 1198. Other additions include a cross-mounted steering damper and Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP tires. According to Ducati, the 848EVO also retains the same dry weight of 370 pounds.

The 2011 Ducati 848EVO will be available at North American Ducati dealerships in late August in Ducati Red with black wheels and red trellis frame, or in a new “Dark Stealth” version with black bodywork, frame and wheels. Ducati North America has kept the price unchanged from the 2010 Ducati 848 it replaces: $12,995 for the Dark Stealth version and $13,995 for the Ducati Red.
