2009 Isle of Man TT Sidecar 2 stopped

Race called off after serious crash
By Motorcycle.Com Staff, Jun. 10, 2009
Isle of Man TT organizers have cancelled the second Sidecar race following an accident involving the HM Plant Honda team of Nick Crowe and Mark Cox.

The June 10 race was halted during the first of the scheduled three laps after the HM Plant Honda sidecar crashed as it approached the 17-mile marker at Ballaugh Bridge.

Crowe and Cox, the winners of both sidecar races in the 2008 Isle of Man TT, were airlifted to a local hospital. Their Honda sidecar had also reportedly caught fire.

Isle of Man TT organizers confirmed Crowe and Cox both received significant fractures and were undergoing further examination. The pair released a statement thanking race marshals and medics and the staff at Nobles Hospital for their assistance.

The LCR Honda duo of John Holden and Andrew Winkle were leading when the race was called with 14-time Isle of Man TT race winner Dave Molyneux and his DMR Suzuki partner Dan Sayle in second. The second sidecar race will not be re-scheduled.

The planned practice session for the Senior TT was also canceled.
