Love my 2006 FZ1
By Ken Weyant (I am an Owner) on Aug 08, 2023I had a 2006 FZ6 that I purchased used in showroom condition for a few years and when I had a chance to get the FZ1 in similar condition I went for it. Have had it for 5 years now. Recently had a problem with rattling in 2nd gear... costing me about 2K in repairs. I could have sold it and let ... someone else deal with it and found a different motorcycle but I have not been able to find something else that I'd want. Maybe a new Kawasaki Versys 1000 but at 20K and only 120 Hp, no way. My FZ1 sports 150 Hp and I can feel it. At almost 80 yrs old I still want that quick response when I twist the throttle. It has the response similar to my daughter's 2021 mid engine Corvette but I can get through traffic faster in Southern California on my FZ1. Rated at 0-60 in 3.1 seconds, it leaves most high-end sports cars in the dust. Bottom line is, I suspect this will be my last bike 🥰

Performer
By (I am an Owner) on Jul 29, 2011Just what I was looking for. No need to grab clip-ons, unless you're on the track. Tested this bike on long haul and I was laughing at my friend on his GSXR. His neck and wrists were killing him. Next, did a track day at Willow Springs. Liter bikes couldn't pull me down the straights. Gave ... up a little in the corners, due to stock tires and peg clearance, but proved to be the all around performer i hoped.

Gen 1 and 2 FZ1's
By () on Jul 07, 2009I own both Gen 1 and Gen 2 FZ1's. My 02 model has 33k miles and my 06 has 4k miles. Both bikes are a delight to ride, there is slight differences them, the one most riders seem to focus on is the fuel delivery systems, carbs versus fuel injection. Yes, the FI starts in the winter much easier but ... I have found the older model to have a better response when hammering it coming out of curves. Just a slight seat position prior to twisting the throttle, the older model will for sure lift without any hesitation. The Gen 2 model has less vibration, which could be due to tires but in either model it is not much to worry about. I believe Yamaha did this bike correctly, build it right to start with, then sit back until significant improvements can be implemented. The 190 rear tire on the Gen 2 model makes the bike look like a brute, but you pay for it with riding comfort. Brakes are smooth and powerful with no signs of fading in both models. Fuel consumption is 42-45 mpg. The 02 model has run in the low 10's at the track, not needing all this power I have since replaced the front sprocket with a higher tooth count. Over the years I have owned dozens of bikes, the FZ1 would have to be in the top 3. The bike looks innocent enough and it is just great to let it out at the right times, not too often does it have to tuck it's tail and crawl away. I do not believe anyone woul be dissappointed with any FZ1, it is a model that really has flown under the radar.

Love it!
By (I am an Owner) on Jun 17, 2009I found a great deal, a FZ1 just broke in and paid little money for a screamer. Over the past 3 months I have put 4,000 miles on this bike. The motor is fantastic, beyond reliable. If the seat was more comfortable I would ride it any distance "worry free". Now let's talk about useable power. This ... bike is tuned to be calm when you want to be, and if you want awake the sleeping giant drop two gears and pin it. The airbox underneath you screams and the missle is launched. A lot of reviews talk bad about this bike, but it is and inexpensive fun bike that the owner will ride. Ive always loved the FZ1 and when fuel injection was offered I jumped on the streetfighter bandwagon. If a person is looking for a bulletproof bike the FZ1 would be a great choice. Spend a grand on mods then people will come out of the woodwork saying "cool bike".

Great all around performance for the money
By (I am an Owner) on Dec 03, 2008My first "new" motorcycle in years. Fast and agile enough to run with the liter supersports but docile and comfortable for around town riding.
