Good Value
By (I am an Owner) on Apr 28, 2012Owned since new in July 2009. I've been very pleased with this bike. Great on fuel and looks like a bigger bike than it actually is. I've had people ask me if it's a 1300 or 1500. My only criticism is the brakes are a bit weak and could benefit from twin calipers up front for sure. Other than ... that, lots of torque and very well balanced. Maintenance is very inexpensive and lots of after market parts if you want to make it unique. I highly recommend it to novice and expereinced riders alike.

Gas tank fill guard
By (I am an Owner) on Nov 07, 2011Love my 2009 950 Tourer, getting 50+ mpg on my routine ride to work. My ONLY dislike is the guard in the filler neck on the gas tank. Pumps here in Prosser, WA pump too fast and the neck of the fill tubes overflows. Tried to get a trickle flow or pump by short, quick trips of the pump handle and ... it still overflows. Cost to have the guard removed at the shop was stated as $450-$550. Have you had this proplem when filling up your bike?

Needs better seats
By (I am an Owner) on Aug 07, 2011Bought the bike as a leftover 2009 after the 2011's came out. Got a great deal.
The first thing you notice is the seat will just wear your rear end out within 20 min. I replaced the seat with a Mustang the first chance i got. I have also added Cobra slip on's, K-N air filters and a larger ... windshield. I'm 5'11", and the stock windshield didn't work for me. The bike gets up and goes with the aftermarket parts, but it will scrape the floorboards in the twisties. No problems with 3000 miles on the bike.

Perfect bike for a beginner
By (I am an Owner) on Nov 26, 2010Purchased my dark cherry V-Star 950 Tourer on 11/20/10 and drove it home on 11/22/10. I did all the research and look at all the other manufacturers from A to Z. However, I always came back the V-Star. It's not too big or too small for my 6" 167lb frame. Throttle, shifting, weight, breaking, ... maneuverability and styling are all A+. Hard saddle bags are sharp looking and add to the look of the bike and the windscreen is not too large also. You can cruise at 55mph or 85mph and still have power to spare. The fuel injections is spot on and the auto turn signal cancel after 15 seconds or 450ft are a plus. This bike if perfect for beginners or those coming back to riding after a while. No wonder they won 2009 metric of the year.

LOVE IT!!
By (I am an Owner) on Aug 23, 2010Aug 23, 2010 - I'm a 54 year old guy, 6'0, 195#, this is just my second bike, got my first one last May (2009) a used 2007 650 V-Star Custom...didn't think I would ever want to give it up, but this 950 Tourer made me think again. Just took delivery of it this past Saturday, already 377 miles on ... it just "CRUISIN". It is so hard to hold the speed at 55 mph... as it just seems to be idling good there, a little throttle and you're sitting on 80, with plenty of throttle left. Got mine in the "Dark Cherry"... had so many envious looks... Couldn't help but grin to myself!! Very easy bike to ride, comfortable, power, style, looks... can't say enough about it. Thanks to Mark(Squat) & Keith at my local Yamaha dealership!!

You will be suprised
By (I am an Owner) on May 20, 2010This is a great bike, low, torquey, easy to handle and tons of pwer. The gears are great and direct. The fuel injection is fantastic start motor and go no warming up or messin with choke. The saddle bags have tons of room. The riding position is the most comfortable of the Suzuki, Kawasaki and Honda ... I tried. You feel like you are in the bike instead of on it. The floorboards are great. Heal toes shifting is easy. Clutch super easy to smoothly operate. Very little vibration in bars at highway speed. I recommmedn this bike to anyone who wants a comfortable powerful easily manouverable ride. The styling is phenominal, people think it is a $20,000 bike.

Late life rider
By (I am an Owner) on May 14, 2010Had back surgery 3 years ago and a new hip Dec 2009. One month after surgery I got my right leg over the old Sportster saddle and figured this 74 year old body had one more bike in it, so I ordered the Yamaha 950 Tourer that I had been drooling over for 5 months. Two months of riding have shown the ... 950 to be more comfortable and stable than I had envisioned. Looks and conveniance of functions have proven to be a bonus. Impression--A lot of bike for the price. Bonus-- my riding buddies like it.

7 th bike & it's a keeper!
By (I am an Owner) on Mar 22, 2010Ridden Honda's & Suzuki's all my life, but this beats them all! Seat is the only weak area, but thats what red lights are for, stretching. Lots of jam & vibration is minimal. I'd recommend this bike to any one.

Best Bike for the buck
By (I am an Owner) on Feb 15, 2010I have been riding bikes for the past 40 years and have had my fair share of them from a honda 125 to a Vulcan 1500 with a couple of scooters and a much hated HD. The 950, for an older rider such as myself is just about the perfect bike. Its still big enough to play on the highway and ride for days ... on end but small enough for me to handle around town. The Power54 of the 950 is pretty awesome, it will not get you into triple digits in any kind of a hurry but is happy at highway speeds all day long. The only main drawback is the seat. As this is my first Yamaha, I don't know if Yamaha does this with all their bikes but the stock seat on the 950 is really uncomfortable. Its an easy fix. I replaced it with a Mustang Seat and end of that worry. I have the Touring model with Bags, windscreen and sissy bar. I have since upgraded the pipes to Cobra Longshots, added rear rack, passing lamps and a Power Commander fuel management System, along with a little bling here and there.

What A Cruiser
By (I am an Owner) on Sep 11, 2009I had gotten out of cruisers several years ago and gone into sport touring models. I also own a 2008 Triumph Tiger 1050, which I have had for over a year now. I love the Triumph but it's tall and top heavy and my old 71 year old legs aren't all that steady these days. I plan to keep it also but ... mostly for weekend jaunts as it is really a fun bike. I purchased the 950 Tourer about a week ago and have ridden it every day since, about a 50 mile per day commute. Great power and handling and great price, especially with the bags, windshield and padded sissy bar. My wife likes it much better also.

Yamaha V-Star 950 Tourer
By (I am an Owner) on Sep 10, 2009I was very leary about this bike because I'm 6'1" and 250 lbs. I thought it might be a little to small however it fits me perfectly and has great power, great handling at a great price. If you're looking for a starter bike this is the one.

Best all a round mid size cruiser going.
By (I am an Owner) on Aug 20, 2009I've owned more bikes these past 20 years than I care to remember, including most Yamaha cruisers.
At 67, I was looking for a "last bike" and searched the mid sized cruiser market pretty heavy, before buying the V Star 950 Tourer.
With all the end of the close out deals ... out there, this was still my first choice
Great handling, power and sound. The Tourer package has a great assortment of accessories for only about $600 more than the standard. Love the solid wind screen, and the bags are fantastic. I've just installed my chrome bag guards and side rails this evening.
I'm not a Silver person, but chose this color because it looked fantastic on this particular bike, especially with the great chrome. BTW: steel fenders are a BIG deal with me.
The V Star's 1100's and 1300's are closing out at a little less money, but come no where close to this "Cruiser of the Year."

Great First Bike
By (I am an Owner) on May 11, 2009Just bought my V*950 tourer in Dark Cherry last month. The 950 is my first bike. I've always wanted a yamaha 1100 and then I saw the 950! I'm 6'1" and 230 lbs. My wife suggested I get this one instead of the 1100. Its cheaper, fuel injected and has cast aluminum wheels (no tuning spokes). And ... its only about 120cc less than the 1100. The bike handles me pretty well. Its quick, nimble around corners, and easy enough to handle at slow speed in parking lots, etc. For a beginning rider I'd say its perfect! I wonder if the 1100 would be as forgiving to a newbie? I feel it needs an additional gear past 55/60mph - I've caught myself trying to shift again only to find I'm already in fifth. The floor boards are nice, my size 12 shoes handle the shifter just fine, my knees hug the tank okay. The seat gets uncomfortable after a 30 minute ride - so that will need replacing soon. The handle bars are spaced right for me - with my long arms. I prefer the shorter windshield so I don't have the glare at eyelevel. I looked at a kawasaki 900 Vulcan, although more comfortable to sit on, my shoe size kept getting hung-up on the shifter and I didn't like the super-size windscreen. Plus, the V*950 sounds better than the Vulcan. Those are my opinions - all riders are different. I've rambled on - the V*950 is a great middle weight bike, good for newbies like me, those who don't want a beast to handle, sharp to look at, easy on the wallet.

Yamaha V-Star 950 Tourer
By (I am an Owner) on Apr 09, 2009My 5'3" wife has been searching for a tourer for years. The V-Star 950 Tourer is it! Great power, saddle bags, windshield, foot boards. Everything she was looking for all in a factory package. She loves it!!!! Yamaha made this tourer, supposedly for the height challanged and it does that. She ... can sit with both feet on the ground. However, that said, their are some drawbacks. Handle bars are far to wide for a short woman's comfort. We are looking to change them out for something narrower and pull back. The foot boards are nice but too far forward as is the heal toe shifter and rear brake. She has to really stretch to downshift/break etc. Still looking to buy or modify to correct this problem. Lastly, the windshield is the shortest of three that they offer. Even at 5'3" it is too short for her. So we bought the next size up.
Again I must restate, she loves the bike even with these inconviences which we will overcome. Even if Yamaha doesn't offer aftermarket parts.

V Star 950 Tourer
By (I am an Owner) on Apr 01, 2009Just bought the 950 Tourer and have been loving it ever since. I haven't ridden for 30 years, so this would be an intro bike for me. It rides well and is easy to handle. It has the power and feel of a bigger bike, but is still small enough for a beginner to handle with no problems. It doesn't ... matter if I'm on the highway or a country road or city traffic, I just don't want to get off of it.
