The best of both worlds
By (I am an Owner) on Jul 04, 2013After years of lusting after a Road King Classic but never wanting to spend the money on one I made the mistake of taking a test drive. It was love at first ride, I was shocked at how much more I liked it then my Yamaha Road Star.
I had my Road Star for 4 years and had put 24k miles ... on it and had been wanting to upgrade to a touring bike but didn't want to go the full dresser route. I had always liked the looks of the Road King Classic but the price had kept me away. The Road King Classic is the perfect combination of cruiser looks and turing bike comfort and features. When you want to use it as a cruiser just pop of the windshield and the racks and you are good to go.
For touring the air shocks, cruise control, shield and bags are perfect for that long trip. The leather bags are not as convenient as hard bags and are a pain to lock having two plastic clips each but they look awesome so its a small price to pay for fashion. They hold plenty of gear, have custom liners that make taking your luggage out and into the hotel room a snap and they protect well against the elements with only a little water getting in during a soaking rain.
I was surprised how much more nimble the Road king is than the Road Star, I find my self taking corners with a little more speed but a lot more confidence. The bike is very planted and tracks and corners like a much smaller bike.
The ABS is awesome and has already made a big difference when riding in the rain. I Just purchased my Road King in March and I put not quite 5000 miles on it by the fourth of July with one 2400 mile trip from Ohio to New Orleans. It was during this trip that while riding in the rain the ABS was a life safer letting me come to stops quickly with no big moments.
Overall an excellent bike I should of purchased it years ago.
