excellent urban commuter
By (I am an Owner) on Nov 14, 2010This bike is a terrific daily commuter; reasonably light, narrow, bullet-proof engine, good fuel mileage for size, low center of gravity, ABS and heated grips. Excellent for women riders b/c of low seat height and short reach to grips.
As noted above, an excellent bike for beginners-- ... this is why I bought it when I started riding again at 59. I put on a set of panniers and I use it for most of my commuting now, and it is a lot more fun than riding in the car.
It will cruise at 70 on the highway, but gets a little buzzy at speed. More than adequate power and acceleration, but this is not its forte.
Overall, I am very pleased and don't think I could have done any better for the money-- took advantage of a 1.9% financing incentive from BMW

A great first bike
By (I am an Owner) on Sep 01, 2009Yes, BMW's are a bit overpriced compared to the competition from the orient. However, BMW knows what it is doing. The G650GS is a great bike for first time riders and experienced riders alike. If you plan on commuting to work on anything but perfect roads this bike is a great choice. A suspension ... that is sure footed and 50+ mpg can't be beat. Toss in ABS and heated grips as standard and you have a bike you can ride deep into the fall and early in the spring.
