Photo Tickets

Doing research on "mailed" tickets for red light infractions I am amazed that people actually respond to these things.

While the charge may be legitimate, any summons or warrant received via regular mail is considered "sewer service" and may simply be thrown away.

Unless a citation is properly served upon the defendant (by a process server or the police officer issuing the ticket), or is delivered by registered mail - return receipt requested - there is absolutely no way the court can prove you actually got it.

So far I've received four such tickets, have tossed all of them in the trash, and have yet to receive an official summons or even be challenged by the Department of Motor Vehicles when registering my vehicle(s).

Bottom line - if it comes in the mail it does not count!
