The Dakar is Sold Out

For the first time in its history, the Dakar is, as of July, full in all categories: cars, bikes, trucks and assistance.

A total of 725 vehicles, which represents approximately 1700 people, from an ever increasing number of countries.

Motorcycles: 230 (more than 350 applicants)
Cars: 180
Trucks: 75
Support vehicles: 240

But wait... There's more Dakar news.

Officials of the annual Dakar motoring marathon want more Americans to join their trek across the African desert, so they have changed the rules to make entry by American off-road racers easier ... Vehicles that compete in the SCORE off-road racing series will be eligible for future Dakar rallies.

How's that for good news, MOrons? First we get the return of MotoGP in the US. Now we get increased US participation in (and increased US coverage of) the Dakar. Can I get an "Amen"?
