Husqvarnas ultra light 4-stroke

TC 250s engine claimed to weigh 48.5 lbs

Husqvarna Motorcycles will introduce what it calls the worlds lightest single-cylinder engine in its upcoming 2009 TC 250.

At the heart of the TC 250 is a new power plant that Husqvarna describes as ultra light and compact. Husqvarna says the engine, which features four titanium radial valves, weighs in at only 48.5 lbs and is 13% smaller than competing single-cylinder engines.

The Italian manufacturer, which BMW purchased from MV Agusta in 2007, has tested the new Motocross race bike at various venues over the summer.

Husqvarna has been testing the TC 250 at various Motocross venues this summer.
Andrea Bartolini, the 1999 500cc Motocross World Champion, was an important part of the TC 250s development. As the bikes chief test rider, Bartolini has worked closely with Husqvarnas research and development team to fine tune the bike.

The new TC 250 is very thin and compact, offering superior handling and responsiveness, says Bartolini.

The TC 250 will be available in limited quantities later this year. Husqvarna is considering it as an entry in the 2009 World Motocross Championship.
