AMA Pro Racing Suspends Herrin
Shortly after Jason DiSalvo crossed the finish line to win the 2011 Daytona 200, Graves Yamaha’s Herrin made contact with M4 Suzuki’s Dane Westby, appearing to activate his front brake lever and causing him to crash. Vesrah Suzuki’s Taylor Knapp also crashed after colliding with Westby’s GSX-R600.
AMA Pro Racing ruled Herrin’s actions were in violation of A2.3.p (riding in a manner endangering other riders) and A2.3.u (performing actions detrimental to the sport of motorcycle racing) in the official rulebook.
Herrin will be suspended from the May 13-15 Infineon Raceway round and will be placed under probation until Dec. 31. Any further violations before the end of the year will result in stiffer penalties.
AMA Pro Racing also penalized Herrin’s team, Graves Motorsports, with a $7,500 fine. The $7,500 will be applied to the purchase of Airfence safety barriers.
