Friday Forum Foraging: Ducati's Underrated Gem – A 1098S Track Bike

One of the last Ducati trellis-framed superbikes could be yours.

In my personal opinion, the trellis frame found first in the Ducati 1098 and later in the 1198 – the last before Ducati ditched traditional frames altogether – is still one of the best chassis I've ever ridden. It remains one of the few motorcycles that have made me feel like I could do no wrong on the racetrack. Every now and again I get an itch to find a 1098 trackbike, and now one has come up for sale. I'm not really in a position to buy another motorcycle right now, but if you are, and you want to experience perhaps an underrated Ducati superbike, this is your chance.

Up for grabs is a 2008 Ducati 1098S that the original owner has converted into solely for track duty. Unfortunately, as happens in life, medical reasons spring up that mean you have to give up riding and that's the case here. That said, for $9000, it appears as though this 1098S is a solid buy. True, it's not the uprated 1098R, with the world's first traction control system on a production motorcycle, but it's still really good.

You can find the original ad listing below, and if you're interested in the bike, go to our sister site Ducati.org to get in contact with the seller.
