2008 Yamaha FZ6 "Raven"

I purchased this bike in July of 2008, and since the dealer was out, they had to order one from out-of-state. I didn't pick it up until August of 2008. This is my first bike, and I am extremely happy with it. I had read a number of reviews that said a beginner should not use this bike to learn on. ...They said that there was just too much power and that it's too easy to find yourself going a hundred miles an hour down the highway. Well, I say, watch the speedometer and control your wrist. I have had no problem whatsoever with with controlling it. I bought it brand-new - never having written before, and as of November 2008, I have 2600 miles on it.
The performance has been wonderful. It cruises along extremely smoothly, the shifting is great, and the gas mileage is decent. As far as quality and reliability goes, I've used Yamaha musical equipment in the past, and between the reliability I've seen in that and what I've read about the motorcycles, I will agree that I rate it highly. I only have 2600 miles on my bike, but I'm confident it will do a great job for a long time to come. The seating position is more upright then strictly sports bikes which I like. You are not leaning over constantly and your back feels much better on the ride. The standard seat does leave a little to be desired when you are on long rides because there is not much padding on it. Yes, you could put a gel pad on it, or replace it with a gel seat that Yamaha makes, but I went the cheap route. I bought a foam kneeling pad that you'd use to work in the garden. Then I went to a fabrics store and bought an extra square of foam. I stuffed the extra foam into the waterproof material that enclosed the original foam. There is a nylon loop on one end. I put a bungee cord through the loop, ran each end through the passenger handrails, connected the two ends of the bungee cord so it stays in place, and laid it on the seat. For five dollars I increased the comfort of the seat immensely. And it doesn't look bad either. I love this bike, I think the value of it is wonderful, and I plan to keep it for a long time. yamaha fz6

i think after reserching and carefully reading magazine up dates. i have decided to buy the yamaha fz6 standard. it has a aluminum frame' 410 lbs dry weight; 468 with all the fluids and toped off with gas. 84 horsepower at the rear wheels, and about 106 horsepower at the flywheel.thats alot of power... per weight ratio.im 54 years old i absolotly love the way it looks and feels. i thank for my money im going to spend on the fz6.botom line fz6 fz6 fz6??? My son names my FZ Cyborg, after Teen Titans. I was going to name it Raven- for its color, and another character off Teen Titans. In the beginning, I had a difficult time getting used to FZ's insufficient low-end torque. After a few ride I understood the need to keep the rpm above 4k to 5k to keep t...he bike from stalling from start. The high-end power is amazingly smooth. I drove it around town but it is happiest on an open road where it can be revved high. Not the best for stop-and-go traffic. Read Full Review
