My 2010 Hayabusa
By (I am an Owner) on Sep 14, 2011What is the overwhelming "Quality" of this machine? In a word, SERENITY (at any speed between 0-300kph).
In A mode, even a Grandad novice (with a license) can ride it, yet in any gear at any speed the seamless power delivery, gearbox and clutch can be summed up as exemplary, giving the ... closest to date impression of being launched by a giant slingshot into the horizon. I would give it 5 stars in all categories despite the glitch with the rectifier which packed up and was replaced under warranty. A faulty batch apparently. The rest is 100%.
Handling: in 2nd and 1st gear corners going uphill in the mountain twisties, the Busa is never going to be as flickable as a GSXR600 and you do feel the weight. However, that goes with the territory and the other side of the coin is that between 200-300kph, it is steady as a rock and difficult as it might be to contemplate, high speed and Serenity go hand in hand! Over 3-4 hrs riding over mountains and varied expressways, I'd rather be on the Busa than the GSXR600. Ergonomics can be awkward for really short legs or short arms but at 5'10" I find it is no problem whatsoever, though mine is fitted with Heli bars. Just watch the slight top-heaviness when you take it off the side-stand if the bike is parked pointing downhill slightly...it might catch you by surprise as it did me on a grassy driveway. The gearbox with or without clutch, is brilliant. The fuelling impeccable and perfect. Suspension has lots of adjustments and these can turn a leisurely turner into very purposeful responsive steering bike. It's not a track bike because of the weight, which if 50kg lighter, would render it competitive. Still, as is, people do race them, drag them as well as tour at high speed with them. "Hyper-Sport" is an apt description of this package. It is suitable for all purposes (except dirt tracks) and one can adjust accordingly to what you desire. Brakes are more than adequate for road use, though the OEM rubber can be replaced by far better up-to-date alternatives depending on the kind of use intended. Ride and comfort isn't going to be like your leather recliner infront of the TV, but for what it is, draining the tank on a road trip is very easy and you just want to keep going as well! This is a very special bike.
Last thing, the exhaust cans are too heavy and gentlemanly sedate. They "purr" rather than growl. Akrapovic 4 into 1 would more than fix that. They should come like that as standard!

Hayabusa truth!
By (I am an Owner) on Aug 24, 2011I hold these truths to be self evident:
I do not need to change down to pass anything, ever.
I will always check my speed when I see highway patrol and see numbers 20 higher than I thought they would be.
I can just use 2nd on the road.Forever.
If the front comes up by ... itself, I am definately going faster than the limit.
If I ride to the posted limit I will go 50% further than I thought.
Final truth: although she steers slower than a 600 she steers none the less, and will hang on at angles and speeds that surpass my comfort zone.
