I rode my 2000 Harley-Davidson FXD, a bike that I have loved since I bought it new, to one of my local motorcycle shops about three months ago to kill some time on a boring Saturday. I had no intention of buying. I liked the Ducati 999, but I kept looking at a red and black '08 Honda 1000rr. That da...y I traded my Harley for an '08 1000rr. I have not missed the Harley once since I got the Honda.

The 1000rr is quiet when you are off the throttle, and has a nice roar when you are on the throttle…this can come in handy is you see The Man, just back off the throttle and the sound goes away. You can hear the exhaust valve open at about 4,500rpm and it emits a sweet tone. It corners like a dream, the brakes are great, the engine is smooth and pulls even when tach is below 4K. It is a comfortable bike to ride, and I have taken all day rides through the mountains of Georgia and North Carolina on it. I went with a buddy that has a Yamaha R1, and we switched bikes for about 20 minutes…I like the R1 but the Honda has more midrange and a more linear power curve than the R1. He raved about the Honda, but to be honest, I liked the R1 too. The bike is still 100% stock (well, I did put a tank pad and spools on it.)

Pros:

Fast...I mean really fast. Deceptively fast. If you buy one, be careful since the bike is so smooth you will be hitting 80mph before you realize it. Also, cranking the throttle in first or second will result in a power wheelie, but third is OK.

Handling...corners very quickly and predictably.

Styling...a lot of people don't like it, but I do.

Reliability...It is a Honda. No problems at 3K miles, except a screw in the rear tire. I have heard that some '08's burn oil, but I don't have that problem.

Cons:

Shifting…The rr likes fast gear changes, and if you get lazy on shifting, you will miss a gear. This happens to me going from second to third, and only when I’m taking it easy (bad habit from riding a Harley for 8 years.)

Tire Wear…I might get 3,500 miles out of the front tire, the back was replaced at 2,500 miles (due to the previously mentioned screw problem), and is still in good shape.

Storage…due to the fully plastic tank cover, I had to buy a tail bag to hold a few item that I like to have when I ride (water, tools, wallet, foul weather gear, etc.) Also the “tool kit” that comes with the bike only contains a screwdriver.

Setup…the bike is setup at the factory for a 140 pound person. I had to tighten the rear preload two notches and the front one and a half turns. I also had to stiffen the damping and rebound to set the bike up for me (6 feet 190 lbs.)

Conclusion>

The '08 CBR 1000rr is a spectacular machine. This is the second super bike that I have owned. This bike is comfortable in traffic and on the highway. It is fast, but the power comes on so smooth that it is not scary, just exciting. I understand why it has received such great press coverage… Sorry, but since the bike is stock, I didn't include pictures...Honda can provide those if you are interrested.

Good bike but..

My bike is burning oil like mad, about 0.8 Liter per 1000km so I cannot take a long trip without bottle of oil. This is madness. If I knew it would come into this, I would rather buy gsxr or r1. Better fix this issue in 2009 or no one will ever buy this bike. After all this is great bike. Read Full Review

One Very Amazing sport bike.

I have been riding for years not. About 12 years now. I have rode many motorcycles and owned yamaha's and honda's. This motorcycles out performs all of them put together. I would recommend this bike for anyone. It is blazing fast and corners better than any 600 i have ever ridden. Its so easy to tak...e a corner with. My other bike is a Yamaha R-6 2004. This bike out handles and out performs it with out question. You don't have to think about hitting a corner with it. just point it in a direction and it goes with out

2008 CBR 1000 is Awesome!!

This is a great bike. I have rode many Sport bikes but have only owned two. A Yamaha R6 and a the 08 CBR 1000.



Let me start off by saying that I expected a huge difference in handling capability in the 1000 in relation to the 599cc R6 but I was totally wrong. The CBR handles even better and ha...s more stability in curves than the R6 in my opinion. On top of that, the stomping midrange of the CBR allows you to accelerate out of corners much faster and with better control.

The CBR also handles high speeds much better than a 600. It picks up speed extremely fast and if you are not careful, you will break 150mph without any vibration felt in the gastank at all.

The fun factor of the CBR is awesome. Rolling in first gear at about 35 or 40 mph the front wheel will come up with the quick turn of the wrist. It is very easy to power wheelie the CBR in 1st gear.

It is an awesome bike and gets alot of attention and respect on the street!!

I bought two of 'em

I sold my beloved '03 Gixxer 1000 and picked up a Red/Black CBR in early October. At first I was really disappointed with the lack of low end grunt available (weak below 5500rpm) when compared to my Gixxer. It didn't take long to get over because the motor really hits hard at six thousand and pull...s hard compared to the Gixxer. With my 235lb butt at the wheel it went 10.30 @ 137 in the 1/4 mile the first time I had it to the track.

The handling and brakes are the best I have felt on any size bike though the suspension feels "stiff" at times for daily my daily riding. The bike is otherwise very comfortable even for my height of 6' 1".

After only 900 miles and 5 weeks of ownership some A-HOLE made a left turn in front of me and totaled the bike. I liked the first one so much I just brought home another...$7450 after tax/tag. Cant beat that!!!
