handlebar swap

Anyone who has a problem with the ride position on the 2009 RK can change the bars to the heritage bars. I did and this made a huge difference. You now have the same seating as the heritage(I agree is superior) and the mechanical benefits of the new RK...2009 RK handles loke no other cruiser I hav...e ridden. As Stable as they come!

Fifth bike and third HD. I went from a sportster, to an FXDX (2003) and now to the Road King (2009). I am totally taken with the Fuel Injection, the solid weight of the bike, how well it tracks in curves. I put 326 miles on yesterday and today-quite a bit of time in the saddle. The seat is very comf...ortable. The handlebar position is probably a little lower than I would like. I struggled between the Heritage and the King. The King won out mainly due to the ABS and dual disks, the cruise control, and the hard bags. The seating position of the heritage is superior in my opinion; however, the NIKE swoosh paint job and spokes were detractors for me. The paint job on the King is classic. I will say that the King is a bit heavy after man-handling the Super Glide for five years. I find myself wondering if it will get away from me in slow turns (garage, etc.). With the engine guard, I don't think it matters. I do intend to continue to respect the weight and hopefully nothing undue will occur. All-in-all, I am very pleased with my purchase. This is the last one

After purchasing a new 03 Superglide I thought that would be my last bike. But after 5 years of riding two up I realized we needed something more comfortable. I bought a 09 Road King standard in Oct. and have managed to get 750 miles on it before it started snowing every other day here in Rhode Isla...nd. All I can say is this will be my last bike. It handles unbelievable. Feels like a much lighter bike. Very comfortable riding position. Fit and finish is second to none. Got the red hot sunglow and the gold pearl metalic in the paint really looks beautiful in the sunlight. Windshield offers plenty of protection and the sixth gear makes cruising at 75 mph feel like your doing 40. The floorboards take a little getting used to when you try to back the bike up to park as they limit your leg movement but you learn to adjust. The sound of the exhaust to me is perfect. Not to loud, sounds good. A friend of mine put a set of Reinharts on his 08 Road king and it sounds good for a while, then it starts to get annoying. Got the cruise control and it works perfectly. Thought I'd never use it but it really is a nice feature on the highway when the traffic is light. Have not had to use the abs yet but the brakes work extremely well. The security system also is a very nice feature that is very convenient. Just have the keys in your pocket and start the bike. Get off and walk away and the security system automatically activates when you get about 8 feet away from the bike. Fuel injection system works flawlessly no matter what the conditions are. Starts right up and you just drive away, no hesitation. Suspension is a little stiff but I haven't experimented with the air shocks yet. I guess I'll have to wait for better weather conditions before I can adjust the air and fine tune the suspension for the best quality ride. I did manage to get in a 200 mile day of riding and I think I could have gone another 200 without even thinking about it. It is that comfortable. I love this bike more than I thought I would. Outstanding

I went from a 2006 Wide Glide to the 2009 Road King. The difference is astounding. The Road King is stable yet more responsive, especially at low speed, then the much lighter Glide. Riding comfort, ride quality and overall handling are amazing for a bike of this size and weight. I put V&H sl...ip-ons for better sound (the stock pipes are way too quiet) and since I am 6'2" had to do something with the handle bars. My one complaint is the stock bars, they are just not positioned properly and uncomfortable on long rides. I ended up replacing them with 10" Chubby mini-apes and while I was at it, chrome hand controls. That's all I really needed to change. I added highway pegs and the 4-point docking kit so I can mount a sissy bar, rack, tourpak, etc. This bike was built for the open road and doing it comfortably. A friend who owns a 2007 Electra Glide Ultra agrees that the 2009 changes create an entirely new, different and better bike. Read Full Review

2009 Road King vs Imports

I purchased a 2009 Road King in October and have only 1100 miles on it. WOW!!!!!

What a machine.

I have to say that if you cant see the value and quality of the Harley Davidson Road King "that is made in our own country and by our American brothers and sisters", you need to test ride on...e.
I have owned several imported motorcycles and Harley Davidson is the top dog in this review.
I have to say good job Harley Davidson USA!
I should not have to mention trade value compared to the foreign imports. But some of you out there needs to wake up.
