20,000 mile review

Having just put 20k on my 2007 RKC I feel like I have experienced the best and worse this bike has to offer.



First thing, replace that stock leg burning exhaust pipe with after market. The crossover pipe on the stock system is downright dangerous. I installed a Reinhart 2 into 1 on mine with a ...Screaming Eagle stage II kit.
The second thing I removed was those tacky, cheesy, tank badges. I used 3M citrus cleaner to remove the residule adhesive. It did NOT have any effect on the paint. I'm on my second tire in the rear, original in the front. I have been to Nova Scotia (from Connecticut) on this bike and it was comfortable all the way. I carried raingear, 2 person tent, change of clothes, personal hygene bag, and a huge smile. The bags were more than ample for my gear and I strapped the tent to the rear seat. A word of caution, the tent slipped between my removable back rest and the bag buffed a dull spot on top of my rear fender (%$#@!#@$ ). I have used Mobil 1 Synthetic Oil since day 1 and have had no problems. 10/40 w in summer...5/30 in colder weather. It can be had at most Wal-marts for 21 bucks for a 5 gallon container, versus 11 bucks a quart at my nearby Mobil station. I use the Fram chromed oil filter ( 10.89 ) at Wal- mart too. I just replaced the original spark plugs with Bosch. I was having a problem with stalling coming from a brisk ride to a quick stop. I had one close call on the bike requiring me to grab the brakes Hard ! Both tires skidded to a stop rather quickly and the bike stopped straight and came to a stop then wanted to fall but only leaned a bit to the right, saved it and went happily on my way. Note to self, not all cars have working brake lights! With the badges removed from the tank and the Cobalt Blue Pearl paint on the bike, a lot of people at the pumps ask if its a custom paint job. I reply that it is HD stock and they give good remarks on fit and finish to the HD Corp. Many people think about earlier days and stories they heard in the past about HD leaking, failing etc. This is a high qua;ity, comfortable, stylish, great running bike. Although the bars, mirrors and motor Shake more than I'd prefer at idle. I feel Id rather walk a Dobberman than a Poodle mentality about it. This is my third Harley and I'd buy another but would NOT sell this bike...its a keeper, like my 1986 Kawasaki Ninja 1000. I do have major complaints about HD Finance Corp. I was having my payments withdrawn from my checking account on a regular basis but a little over 2 years into it , it suddenly stopped. I was only notified 2 months into this and they negatively effected my credit rating and with numerous three way conversations with my banking institution, HD, and myself, the problem is still unresolved. Damn them ! I recommend your Credit Union, a Bank, a loan against your 401 K....anything but HD Finance Corp. All in all, if you can find a 2007 for sale ( economic times such as these dictate you may ) BUY IT ! You will not be disapointed. I do a lot of two up riding with my wife and she loves it as well. ( maybe its those vibrations, hmmmmm ). A quick bio about us...we reside in Connecticut and ride as often as we can. I'm 54 years old and my wife is too. I'm 5-10 at 205 lbs...shes 5-10 and a buxom German/Irish girl weighing ( yeah right ) so many pounds and the bike has no problems in the steepest grades or the 100 degree heat or the 35 degree cold we ride in. It has plenty of power, good looks, good handling, gets about 30 mpg and a hundred smiles per gallon. Total mark for this specific bike is an A- .

Great Bike

If you want the touring ride and a sleek old school look, you will not find a better combination. This bike is great handling on all road conditions and a day on it is as comfortable as the other touring models. Just a great motor! Read Full Review
