Ducati Monster Owner
By (I am an Owner) on Sep 17, 2008My second bike happened to be a Ducati. By chance, of a great local dealer, a good price, and a great bike, I bit the bullet. I have found years of reliable service (25k miles later), good-handling, stoppable, and a bike that moves! It may not have the horses of a 4 cyl, but I do like the twin for ... being fun. Power is on tap at nearly any RPM, unlike my first bike which was a 750cc 4cyl.
One feature I like that I was not aware of was the breadth of accessories. The monster shares many common pieces over the years and a lot of options for carbon fiber or billet accessories.
It is also a semi- jack of all trades bike. It may not be the best at touring, track-handling, or city-traffic, but it does most everything well. I have had several 500+ mile day trips that were more comfortable than the 750cc yamaha cruiser I first had.
The main complaint I have heard from other Ducati owners is frustration with dealer costs. Thankfully, due to a great dealer here in the midwest, service costs are extremely reasonable. It seems that some dealers take advantage of some customers for some perceived elitism. If your local dealer also sells Ferraris and they look down their nose on your entrance, look somewhere else.
