6 correct with 2 stupid mistakes. Not very good for someone who claimed to love 90s sportbikes elsewhere on this site.

    • Lewis

I thought number 9 was misleading, one choice stated the TL came out in 98 and it was 97, but then after I got it wrong, noticed it said TL 1000 R not S. I picked the RC51.

      • Alaskan18724

        Yep. Me, too.

Tricky, tricky….and those fraudulent, treacherous, misleading photos suggested answers I WANTED to be correct.

As Bill Cosby once said in a stand-up routine about obstetrics and gynecology, “Your parents were never married.”
      9/10? Balderdash.
Then again, I’m not teachable. I got three the first time, seven the second. Clearly, at least three of the answers were nonsensical in my little universe.

      • Mad4TheCrest

I got 5 the first time and 10 the second. I’m not teachable either, just have a working short-term memory.

        • Alaskan18724

Roger that. Apparently, there were three I didn’t believe the first time. Or the second.

      • MotorbikeMike

I’d be lying if I said there weren’t a couple lucky guesses. Reading and obsessing over motorcycles takes up maybe too much time in my little universe though. Perhaps I should get some friends.

        • Alaskan18724

Yeah, me, too. I’ve never been totallyfocused on sport bikes. That’s my excuse. Like ’em, but I’m too tall to fold up and assume a position only a gastroenterologist could love. And not nearly a fast enough rider to use one up. I’d probably do better on the BMW/Guzzi/Triumph/Norton quiz. Even Harley and KTM. I really dig standards and retro standards and sport tourers. Doesn’t mean I won’t hoist one with the sport bike guys, and wish I were as fast as they are! For gentlemen of my vintage, the Z1 was a hot sportbike, and if you really wanted to show some attitude, a Laverda or an MV Agusta!

2, when your memory goes, forgetaboutit…

  • therr850

    Got half right. Guess that makes me a halfass smartass:}

  • Lewis

Got 9 out of 10. I should have as I bought a ton of bikes in the 90’s. As far as sport bikes, it went 92 GSXR 1100, 94 VFR 750, 96 GSXR 750, 97 TL 1000 S, 97 YZF 1000, 98 R1, 99 Duc 748S. Wish I still had the 97 YZF 1000, I just meshed well with that bike and could ride it much faster than all the others. R1 was an animal, but did not suit my riding style as much as the 97 YZF 1000. Memories of great times and having disposable income!

    • spiff

I wanted the YZF1000 so bad it hurt. Got an FZR instead. They are great bikes.

      • Lewis

One came up on ebay a few months ago near me identical to the one I had. About 5000 miles and bone stock for $6500. Thought about it for a second.

    • 12er

      White and red?

      • Lewis

The 97 YZF 1000 was the white, red and black one. The 98 R1 was the blue one.

  • Lewis

Also got a laugh out of the little holes on the 900 RR fairing. I remember some of the pubs back then writing about this with more than a little skepticism on the purpose.of said holes I think they were intended to collect bug parts and other debris and make cleaning your bike more of a pain.

    • Alaskan18724

Little holes were sort of the 3-D equivalent of “bold new graphics.” Except, as you pointed out, for their actual functionality as bug and grit funnels.
